One: this series is awesome! I just finished watching Hellsing OVA.
As for the mercury in the blood supply. Where is the blood coming from? Is there a way to filter out the heavy metals? It was stated that poisons do not affect vampires. I have a theory of why Seras and Alucard health has declined.
Heavy metal in blood causes health concerns over time in humans and too much leads to death. Since vampires are technically already dead, I would figure that they would have a higher tolerance against disease and poison. But perhaps not full immunity if ingested for long periods of time.
The “new” restrictions have been in effect for 10 years since Alucard’s return? In the OVA I remember Alucard stating that vampires are not entirely immortal (except for him).
I’m so thankful that I found this series and I look forward for chapter 5.

The mercury is more so representative of 'low quality blood' due to the contracts in place with Hellsing and their suppliers having to be re-drafted. 1 vampire to feed suddenly turned to 3 and their meals can't be at the expense of the medical needs of the British people.
So, now they get what they can. Flawed and sickly blood only makes for an un-tasty meal for a vampire. Fortunately, due to Benedict doin well on his last evaluations they were able to negotiate for an increase in supply.
But...you should take note on Alucard and Seras's health. Both do seem to be on a decline but for different reasons from one another.
But in this next chapter he'll seem to have a little more pep in his step!
