Normally, actors have a few weeks to rehearse for a musical’s touring production.

Jillian Mueller had just two days to step into the lead role of “Baby” in the national touring production of “Dirty Dancing” that Broadway Theatre League presents Saturday and Sunday at the Morris Performing Arts Center.

Fortunately, she originated the role for this tour three years ago.

Mueller left her role as Baby after six months to pursue other projects and shows — she recently finished a workshop for the upcoming Broadway production “The Cher Show” and rejoined the “Dirty Dancing” tour soon after to replace the injured lead actress.

“I was playing young Cher in the workshop,” she says. “I had already finished up and I was auditioning for film and television, and that’s when I got the call.”

If we could turn back time, we would have front row seats to this reading! According to The New York Post, this week marked the first official read-through of the Cher musical, and Lesli Margherita (Matilda), Tony winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and Jillian Mueller (Bye Bye Birdie) played three incarnations of the pop icon. Jarrod Spector (Beautiful) took on Sonny Bono, the music superstar's late first husband and longtime performing partner.
