How Kisker got his navigator (They're both in their 20s here) The only reason Haddon stayed is because he was SO BORED working for the the crown and had a secret thirst for exploration. He desperately wanted to chart maps rather than follow established routes, and Kisker lets him do that.
I created Christopher in 2021 and entirely neglected him until now, where he currently fills the role of "bestie for kisker" He's also the master gunner of the crew (Piece inspired by Me & My Shadow by Michal Ball and Antonio Banderas. The latter is Kisker's voice claim!)
When I was 15, I named all my pirates after fish. I thought it was a great idea. Then it turned into something more rooted in history, and I was left with a bunch of pirates all named after fish, and half of them I couldn't stand to change the names of. Escolar's name is now a combination of hiding his identity and learning english from the local fishermen.
Hi, I'm curious about your last post about the mercury. Can you provide some context, please?
Thanks
In the 17th-18th century, mercury was the common treatment for syphilis (and other diseases as well, but my research is mainly focused towards syphilis.) It was administered in pill form, or as an ointment, in vapor baths, or injected into the urethra (which is what the syringe is referencing to in the image) The treatment inevitably caused more harm than good, and doctors at the time believed that the side effects were a sign that the treatment was working. Most notably from what I can recall, it caused excessive sweating, and it was believed that they would "sweat out" the disease. Kisker has syphilis, and in the current stage of the story, is in the latent hidden stage. He usually has no symptoms, but may occasionally relapse into the secondary stage, where he gets rashes and sores on his hands and feet and feels unwell. Varden, the ship's surgeon, has tried many treatments with mercury, and Kisker always feels better once the side effects go away, so surely it must be working! (it doesn't work)
The more I research, the more grateful I am for modern medicine

ArtFight Attack on @helmandanchor !!
I really like their pirate guys, I think they’re real fun! I had a good time drawing Captain Kisker, especially since it’s Summer and he just has that whole Summer-vibe:) 🏴☠️

Helloooo my beloved sailors <33333
After a small hunting party of buccaneers encountered the two boys ashore, they had to scramble to find someone fluent enough in Spanish to communicate with them. Julen came to their aide quickly, and though each party could now understand one another, the boys refused to tell what happened to them. Perhaps they had already forgotten.
this is NOT Helm&Anchor related, but it IS gay pirate related, which is close enough. Last year I drew this big page and I rediscovered it today while I was looking through my art folder.
