literary sexts vol. 2 poetry meme
PART ONE
Inspired by the Vol 1 meme by @lizzyisameme , I have decided to make an unofficial sequel with various quotes from Literary Sexts Vol 2, found here on Amazon, as edited by Amanda Oaks & Caitlyn Siehl. As always, if you like what you read, please consider supporting the authors and buying the book yourself!
Not all poems from the book will be found here, as this is only from the first half, and I’m still leaving a good chunk out. A second meme may be in the works to cover some of the last half.
Content warning for some religious themes and imagery.
The waters are rising. We build a submarine from scrap metal and blown glass. The land is eaten by the sea. We love in the entrails of our metal beast rough and water-rocked, four-limbed creature of the deep.
Our orthodoxy is a fistful of bedsheet, and me on my knees before your alter of flesh and salt.
We slip our clothes off, slide carefully through the yard’s dripping body. Snow melts under warmth. Air licks legs. We are fresh want.
I want you to take a deep drag from me. I want you to pull me apart like a wishbone and whisper my name like it’ll save you.
And then there’s the path we followed, the tree that helped me hold you while we kissed minutes at a time - so sure the earth would swallow us whole.
There are groaning pine trees outside of my house and I can hear them breathing. There are words inside of you that spilled out of my mouth and I can feel them fluttering in your chest, all shaky: “I love you, I love you, touch me.”
I stumbled to your thighs - pink sunset hills of no man’s land. Let me get lost. Let me bring you alive.
I want you graffitied in the color of my lipstick - tag every contour of your ribs with the words, “GOD IS DEAD BUT HE STILL SAVED ME. HE WAS REBORN IN THE SOFTNESS OF YOUR SKIN.”
I think I still look for you on the tip of strangers’ tongues like a word that I know the meaning of but can never remember how to spell.
If you’re dark inside, I’ll open the windows, & we’ll be golden drenched. Outside, the grass aches for the backs of your knees. I’ll lay you down on honey colored. I’ll tell you the sun peaks. I’ll show you how.
If you were here, I’d drive you to Sweetheart Circle. We’d eat fruit salad from a big bowl. Come here, tell me again about the time we kissed, how we tumbled through the October night.
You, my dark pocket of spinning, my deep joy against the side of your carport; tonight under the fool moon I long for your brutal pull. I want to not-touch until our hearts explode.
Open your mouth, all wet green trees and lightning inside, touch yourself storm in an endless sky.
Our bed is desert; we meet each other with sand-filled mouths and find 100 different places that are synonymous with “oasis”.
The first time I saw you, I remembered you. Your presence was planetary, I was caught in your orbit. How long did we circle, dancing, before we realigned?
I am becoming bilingual; I understand the language of your hands as if it was my native tongue. You are my Tower of Babel.
I watch you laugh with the sunlight spilling through your teeth; you throw your head back and suddenly I am covered in morning.
The warm lift of water and your arms, the hiss and pull of ragged breathing beneath a slivered moon, stifled against your neck. Your eyes.
I crave your breath. Your eyes, firelight on velvety cave walls. Your smile, the sun through October leaves. You move like the heartbeat of a mountain.
It is the ozone of you. The sea salt spray and crashing waves of you. The thunderous cloudbank of you, rolling over me. Pulling my tides.
I am baptized in your water eyes. My body is new again in the river of you.
I live inside the second before we kissed for the first time all day, lips barely brushing, breath against breath, hunger burning like a million linked stars pulsating, close to death, under my skin.
Our soft bodies in my tiny bed. Our teeth tap dancing while your left leg dangles above the floor. Your clumsy mouth is my favorite place to laugh into.
Let’s order one last round and kiss in front of god and the rest of the drunks, then pour ourselves out into the night, following the moon anywhere but home.

Marcellus Williams was murdered by the state of Missouri tonight.
This was unspeakably evil.
We must abolish the death penalty. It’s inhumane, inherently racist, and fatally flawed.
May Marcellus Williams find the peace he was denied in life.
i dont really know how you can look at the american legal system and not see it a system intended to enforce racial hierarchy and subjugation of black people in america. apartheid in the sense that there is an entirely different course of law depending on race. and thats the entire history of this country. why anyone wants to salvage anything from american nationhoood is beyond me
important to note than there are also gofundmes for Palestinians who need funds to rebuild their homes and businesses that need as much attention as gofundmes for those fleeing genocide. I feel like helping Palestinians shouldn't be synonymous with displacement.

Gaza Funds - A small list
Hello followers, I hope you will read and share this post where you can - I have received numerous messages from those within and organizing for individuals from Gaza, and have decided to list them here with a brief summary of each's specific goals (outside of surviving and active genocide) and what monetary amount they have gathered thus far of their goal. Even if you cannot donate, I urge you to read their stories, bring traffic to their pages, and remember that these are individual human beings who deserve respect, decency, and safety.
Donate generously if you are able!
Ola Ferwana's family of 5, including herself, her husband, and their three children, are in need of money to continue surviving these devastating circumstances - every Euro helps them obtain supplies and save up to escape through the Rafah crossing, should it open.
They have only raised 3,041 Euros of their goal, 35,000 Euros. https://gofund.me/4e896ac1
Osama Basil is a web developer whose office has been destroyed. Not only does he wish to rebuild, he also wants to continue his education, survive the genocide, and support his family.
He has only raised 1,145 Euros of the goal, 15,000 Euros. https://gofund.me/100da7db
Dina & Mohammed Abu Zour are the parents of three children, the eldest of whom, at 13 years old, suffers from extensive trauma after being detained by the military with his father for a month. Dina is also pregnant and suffering from preeclampsia, which requires medical care and a cesarian section. For these reasons, they seek to flee through the currently closed Rafah Crossing.
Thus far, they have only raised 1,056 euros of their goal, 30,000 euros. https://gofund.me/b06d2ec5
Ahmed Hassan Al-Sir and his wife, Labna, also have three children, and they currently live on the sidewalks in tents, having been displaced numerous times over the last 10 months. Even small moments of joy, such as their son finding his favorite toy, have been dimmed by the destruction.
Of their 50,000 Euro goal, only 2,296 Euros have been funded. https://gofund.me/aa7b3ff2
Abdallah Mousa is a 20 year old student of medicine living in Gaza when the active genocide began in October. His university has been destroyed, and he seeks to escape with his family through the Rafah Crossing. you can also follow him on Twitter or tumblr, at Abdallah_0117 or @abdallahblog0
He has only raised $2,002 USD of their $30,000 USD goal. https://gogetfunding.com/your-help-is-the-only-hope-to-save-abdallah-his-family-from-genocide/
please rb when u see this!
many palestinians have asked me to share their gofundme links. most are still far from their goals so please donate if u can ♡

N.B.: These are all Palestinian fundraisers who have reached out to my inbox or my side-blog's inbox (@videogamepoc) from 21 July 2024 until 25 July 2024. More masterlists will be made for more campaigns. I cannot compile all of them in one text post due to tumblr's restrictions on the number of links per text post; therefore, this is a finalized masterlist.
These fundraisers are roughly listed in the chronlogical order in which I've received them. They have all been verified by other Palestinian accounts active on Tumblr. I am not vetting any myself, as I am not qualified. If you have a question of whether a fundraiser is vetted or would like to have one vetted, please ask another account that is able to do so. I’ll also be updating these as I get new asks.

Help an intersex family in Gaza!
Hi everyone. I'd like to share about a fundraiser that is very important to me. A good friend of mine is in contact with the organizers.
(Described in alt).
Their story:
"Hello, my name is Abeer. I'm organizing this fundraising campaign from Belgium on behalf of my family, who currently live in Gaza.
Since October 7, all families in Gaza have been subjected to genocide. My family is one of those families that has had to flee its own home several times because of the threat of regular attacks.
After two months, my family decided to return home and take the risk of being bombed at any moment rather than stay in the street. Our 4-floor building now contains over 100 people who have fled from different parts of Gaza. We always open our hearts for our own people, but we can't do it without your help and support.
My parents, Kamal (53) and Moukaram (51), are suffering from the war because of their age and health. My brother Suliman, his wife Rawan Abualnaja and their two-year-old daughter Bisan are trying to stay strong, but it's complicated by their little daughter's enormous needs. My other siblings who are not married are Mohammed 25, Inas 22, Ibrahim 17, Abdallah 15.
My family medical condition during the war:
My father suffers from delusional disorders. He can't work or help my family financially. Mohammed and Ibrahim suffer from a chronic disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia. It is difficult for them to obtain medication in Gaza. One of their medicines has not been available in Gaza for two years. During the war, they couldn't get their medicines because they simply didn't exist anymore. My family members are still suffering. They don't want to be potential victims. They want to escape death and live like other families on the planet.
On 01/01/2024, they attacked the local mosque and the missile failed to explode and ended up in front of my family's house. My family is in danger and the missile will explode any second.
Since then, my family has decided to be evacuated from Gaza because of the senseless attack on our city. Please help me evacuate my family to Egypt so that they can rebuild their lives in peace.
I've been in Belgium for over five years. I feel useless because I haven't been able to do much except try to help them with their daily living expenses. That's why we created this campaign. We're raising funds to evacuate my family to Egypt, a place that offers a glimmer of hope and stability. However, the cost of the evacuation is high, hence our call for crowdfunding.
Every contribution makes a difference The funds we raise will be used for :
- Evacuation from Gaza for both families (Rafah border crossing fees for 9 people total) - Two months of temporary living expenses in Egypt, including food, shelter, and transportation - Passport fees - Food expences untill they leave Gaza
No matter how small your contribution, it can make all the difference in breaking the cycle of violence and uncertainty. By supporting our campaign, you are offering a lifeline to our families so that they can rebuild their lives, heal from their trauma and make a fresh start in a safe and secure environment. Please leave a comment and share our campaign with your friends, so we can reach more people and make a bigger impact. Together, we can make a difference!"
They are using a French platform called Papayoux Solidarite instead of GoFundMe. Abeer also has a Paypal account for non European donors.
They are currently at 33 588,78 €/ 50,000 €.
Let's see if we can get them to 34,000 today. Any donation matters, even $1 or $2 donations can add up.
We need to help them meet their goal. Intersex liberation means intersex liberation everywhere--it is so important that we show up in solidarity. Those of us living with CAH know how dangerous salt wasting crises are without medication, and how important it is to urgently help Mohammed and Ibrahim get access to the medications they need to support their CAH. Intersex solidarity means that we need to show up and support intersex people facing genocide.
If you can't donate, please share. Consider doing an art raffle to raise money. Do whatever you can to help this family because it is urgent, and we need to act in solidarity with them now and make sure that the intersex community is here to support them!
this fundraiser is incredibly important. intersex community, let's figure out how we can help them urgently meet their goals.

as many of you know, i lost many of my own family in the genocide in gaza. this eid, please take the time to donate as little as a dollar to a gofundme here through the continuously updating gazafunds page. if everyone who liked/reblogged this left even a dollar, it would help save thousands of families from facing the same fate as mine. thank you.
Today I'm going to talk about a form of radical resistance that anyone, no matter their situation, can engage in: cultivating hope.
Are you filled with hopelessness and despair at the state of the world? I have some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is you've fallen for a tool of the status quo. Despair freezes us. It keeps us from imagining and working towards a better world. Despair is easy, because it means we have no reason to take action to make things better. Capitalism? Our oppressors? They want you hopeless for a reason. Because you're easier to control that way.
The good news is! There's a lot of very real reasons for hope. However, hope is something you have to cultivate. It takes work. It is a radical act. It is looking at the status quo and going "actually, no. I refuse."
Maybe you can't risk losing your job to unionize your workplace. Or maybe you're an oppressed minority who can't risk going to protests because our criminal justice system is racist. But cultivating hope in yourself is just as radical an act of resistance as those two things. It is another form of imagining and working towards a better world.
It's not as flashy as starting a union or going to a protest, true. Maybe it feels selfish, like you're only helping yourself. But that's not true. It's a lot harder to help others when you, yourself, are frozen by despair. By working on yourself, you are making it easier for you to help others, in whatever form that takes for you.
For me, since I started my hopepunk practice I have been more able to engage in activism, even if I no longer post about it. Before calls to action froze me. I was so overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of our problems that I was unable to address any of them.
Since I've started cultivating hope in myself, I've unfrozen enough that I was able to choose the causes that matter to me and put my energy there. I engage in more charitable donations and political actions now than I did before. I am happier and also helping others more than I did before.
Cultivating hope in yourself is hard at first. You feel defeated before you even start. But you start putting work in and you find a little hope. And then a little more. And a little more. And then, suddenly. It snowballs and you're doing better than you have in years, and hope comes easier to you now.
If you don't know where to start, go follow @hopepunk-humanity @hope-for-the-planet @afeelgoodblog and @reasonsforhope or follow the hopepunk tag
There's also things like the good news network, who have a daily email they send out with a handful of positive news stories. Some of them I find kinda dumb and shallow like "lost dog returned after 3 years" type stories. But there's also a lot about scientific advancments in green energy, medical care, etc that I find helpful for cultivating hope. Did you know about the CRISPR gene editing tool that's being used to cure incurable illnesses? I didn't! And now I do! afeelgoodblog also runs a substack "best news of last week" newsletter every Monday that I find has stories with more substance, tho it is US focused.
Despair isn't helping anyone, especially not you. Engage in a radical act and start cultivating hope in yourself. You deserve to leave that despair behind, and in the process, you are directly going against the powers that have decided we are easier to control if we are miserable.
this is something i try to share are promote as much as possible
