My Favorite Superhero

Since I can remember I've been a fan of superheroes.  To me a superhero can sometimes do the impossible, or possess supernatural or superhuman powers and is dedicated to fighting crime, protecting, and battling a villain everyone once in awhile. Like any fan I always thought it would be amazing to meet one. Of course this is the real world so them existing is slim to none, unless one of these billionaire playboys put their money to use and build a suit of iron or suit resembling a bat (sike, please don't).

  Anyway...I'm 27 and I realized I've known a hero my whole life, because superheroes do not require actual supernatural or superhuman powers or phenomena to be deemed superheroes. My mother is the person that does what I would consider the impossible, has always protected her own and battled with so much. If you ask her how this year has been so far she'd tell you it's was pretty good aH. When in reality it's probably just one of the toughest, I've seen her fight through so much for years from sudden loss of loved ones to fighting for her health. This year I've seen her push herself to keep moving and improving.

 She's pulled through and fought and she's still fighting, Alhumduhlillah. Because what else what a superhero do?

 Happy Birthday to my favorite superhero that I'm pretty lucky to call my mother. ❤️

To followers and friends on here who may not know who this amazing human being was, please read this: inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un One of the Greatest Humanitarians: Abdul Sattar Edhi

KARACHI: Celebrated humanitarian and Edhi Foundation Chairman Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away at the age of 92 in Karachi on Friday night, July 8th.

Born to a family of traders in Gujarat, Mr Edhi arrived in Pakistan in 1947.

The state’s failure to help his struggling family care for his mother – paralysed and suffering from mental health issues – was his painful and decisive turning point towards philanthropy.

In the sticky streets in the heart of Karachi, Mr Edhi, full of idealism and hope, opened his first clinic in 1951. “Social welfare was my vocation, I had to free it,” he says in his autobiography, ‘A Mirror To The Blind’.

Motivated by a spiritual quest for justice, over the years Mr Edhi and his team created maternity wards, morgues, orphanages, shelters and homes for the elderly – all aimed at helping those who cannot help themselves.

The most prominent symbols of the foundation – its 1,500 ambulances – are deployed with unusual efficiency to the scene of terrorist attacks that tear through the country with devastating regularity.

Revered by many as a national hero, Mr Edhi created a charitable empire out of nothing. He masterminded Pakistan’s largest welfare organisation almost single-handedly, entirely with private donations.

Content with just two sets of clothes, he slept in a windowless room of white tiles adjoining the office of his charitable foundation. Sparsely equipped, it had just one bed, a sink and a hotplate.

“He never established a home for his own children,” his wife Bilquis, who manages the foundation’s homes for women and children, told AFP in an interview this year.

What he has established is something of a safety net for the poor and destitute, mobilising the nation to donate and help take action – filling a gap left by a lack of welfare state.

Mr Edhi has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize, and appeared on the list again this year – put there by Malala Yousafzai, Pakistan’s teenage Nobel laureate.  His last words were: “Meray mulk k ghareebo ka khiyal rakhna.”  “Take care of the poor from my land.”

Let’s not have this man’s beautiful legacy end with him.

Day 7: Spread the Love

Like many of us do on a Sunday morning, we lay in bed and usually look through our social media feeds, whether it be Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. After reading the headline “50 Dead In Orlando Nightclub Shooting” I quickly sat up straight in bed. I started to read up on what the current updates were. My heart broke when I heard that 50 people were killed, and headlines saying “Gunman May Be Linked to ISIS”. I can’t lie and say that in the back of my head I thought, “Well, let’s all brace ourselves for another week of Islamophobia.” I’m sure I speak for many when I say it becomes second nature to have such thinking. Even though statistically it doesn’t make sense. But chastising a religion is just something that can easily dominate headlines, instead of saying this was an anti-gay hate crime. That what the shooting in Orlando was a terrible hate crime, and all that runs through my head now is “Let’s all brace ourselves for a week of Islamophobia on one side and homophobia on the other.” The Islamic month of Ramadan is considered the holiest. A time for patience, endurance, reflection and helping of others. With this I say we use this holy time of reflection to help out in anyway we can, and also pray for the LGBT community and the victims in Orlando, Florida. Muslims or not. Minority groups such as this face similar criticisms, attacks, and hate. I urge my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters to do what real Muslims do of our true and beautiful faith: love. Because in the end love conquers hate. Brush off the the slander of comments we may hear and prove them wrong in the coming days and focus on what truly matters by helping those in need and right now that means helping the victims, their families and friends of Orlando. Donate what you can, whether it be blood, money or any proper aid. Spread awareness on how one can help and understand the struggles of a community currently living in fear and how we can end such a fear, because as Muslims we know exactly how that feels. My love, thoughts and duas go out those who were affected by the terrible events in Orlando.

Ramadan Mubarak, friends. Every year for Ramadan I tend to set goals for myself, as many others do as well. One of my main goals this year is forgiveness. I go into this holy month with the hope of anyone I know who will forgive me for whatever wrong or hurt I have done in anyway. But my main goal is to figuring my will in forgiving others. I'm not sure if I forgive all too easily or not forgive often. I had an intimate discussion with good friends earlier this week on forgiveness and they all gave me wonderful advice. Even though I may still be hurt and when I have bouts of thinking of the past...it's okay to still be upset even though you have already forgiven them. To not be bitter or resentful but to slowly accept that it is up to the person you have forgiven if they are willing to change for the better or put effort into showing they are grateful for forgiveness. ✨
