The look in his eyes cut deeper than she might have expected—but, strangely, it felt exactly how she’d expected as her eyes reflected the same pain right back. She and Qrow had been dancing around something for a long time now—friendship, maybe; all she knew was that he cared about her at least as much as she cared about him, and not just because it was his job to.
“I think… I think there was a moment right at the end… it felt like I was kind of waking up. Having the life sucked out of you has a strangely rousing effect on you; it hurts like a bitch. Maybe I was going to wake up, right at the end of everything… if that bitch hadn’t put an arrow through me.”
Pursing her lips sadly, Amber lifted a hand to rest on his arm. “Maybe I’ll miss you, too. Maybe I’ll get to keep an eye on you and I won’t have to. Just… promise me, if you see that bitch… you cut her clean in half with that scythe for me, you got it?”
Looking back on the relationship they had had was interesting. As someone forced to take guard over a mystical being, it certainly made things...difficult for them to really forge a friendship that felt genuine. Now, it felt like the most progress they’d ever made was, ironically, right after Amber had perished.
He looked down at the hand she laid on his arm, blinking slowly. Looking back at her, he snorted. “Keep an eye on me, huh? Talk about role reversal...” Qrow placed his hand over hers, nodding as his gaze hardened. “You got it. I won’t let that bastard get away alive next time I see her.”
“I’M A BIRD MOTHERFUCKER, I’M A BIRD!”
“Yeah, but she wasn’t a maiden when she took me on. Now that she has all that power—how are they supposed to have a chance?” Another chug from his bottle, and then her expression shifted bitterly and she huffed out a mirthless laugh. “Well, forgive me for feeling like it’s over when I’m the dead one here. My story is over. It’s done, and I lost.”
Her face softening into something mournful she huffed out another small, sad laugh. “And that’s—that’s just it for me, huh? After this, I’ll… just be gone, won’t I?” Her eyes falling shut, she took another long drink, and then released a slow breath. Lifting her gaze to meet Qrow’s eyes, a melancholy smirk touched at her lips. “Think you’ll manage okay without me?”
He couldn’t help but sigh. Sheesh, Amber was being really pessimistic...Then again, she was dead, so what else was she supposed to feel? “Well, she did had help, but I see your point...” Looking down at his flask, he took another sip and frowned at the question, letting silence linger in the air.
Qrow looked over at Amber, his dulled eyes showing pain. “I’ve already had to do that since you got into a coma. Y’know, I always did hope that you might come back someday, but that ain’t exactly gonna happen with someone braindead. Now, though, you’re really...
“I don’t know...I’m gonna miss you. A lot.”
And come his way it did—after a small roll of her eyes, her hand lifted almost immediately to slap the back of his head with what she deemed suitable force.
“Still the same age as you, birdbrain.” A hand remaining on her hip, Summer lifted the other hand to brush her hair out of her eyes before squinting at him. “So is that a yes or a no?”
Qrow flinched--as always--but it didn’t really hurt...much. It felt great to tease Summer whenever he got the chance, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t think it was amusing the way she called him birdbrain.
“Yeah, yeah, of course. Lead the way,” he gestured towards the door, bowing slightly with a smile on his face.

She wants to smile at being offered Qrow’s own bottle—getting access to his alcohol is an honor she’s had to fight for in the past—but it’s a little hard to manage any remotely happy emotion; she is dead, after all.
“Fuck.” She lifts the bottle to her lips and takes a long swig, and then shakes her head. “I thought—I thought I was strong enough, I thought—I mean, I was never some naive little kid, I didn’t think the world was a fairytale, but it was—so hard not to think good should beat evil when I knew firsthand what kind of firepower good had. Now… who’s going to stop her?”
He just stares down at the ground, listening to her ramble. He couldn’t help but agree; With that kind of firepower, he’d have thought that, in the end, they would win. But now? Cinder was the one with that power. However, she was only just one.
"You’re forgetting, Amber. You weren’t the only maiden; There’s still three of them, somewhere out there in Remnant. But when we find them, not even that flaming bitch is gonna have the power to stop them. Besides...” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a flask, taking a sip. “We haven’t even gotten to the middle of this story of good vs. evil yet.”
She downs the whole thing in one go.
“I just… what did I ever do to deserve this? I tried to help people.”
He watches her chug the whole thing, then looks at his own bottle. “Here,” he hands her it.
“I think that’s the problem about being a hero; People need help because they’re always being targeted. Eventually, the bad guys are gonna move that target onto you. Not to mention that there are people after the power you have--had...”
"Need a drink, Amber"?

A heavy sigh escaped her. “Yeah. And then some.”
He hands her one.
“Sorry that all this crap happened to ya’,” he said, taking a sip from his own bottle.
Unbelievable. If there was one person on this earth who Winter wanted to see less than Qrow Branwen, she certainly couldn’t name them—so of course at the very moment she found herself walking these deserted streets at night, he was the first person she laid eyes on.
Freezing in her tracks, Winter wrinkled her nose in disgust, debating turning back when suddenly his voice rang out, words slightly slurred. Oh, joy. Releasing a long, strained sigh through her nose, Winter clenched her fists.
“And I suppose you think you’re the only one with a right to walk these streets, is that it?”
Taking a few, stiff steps forward with the intention to move right on past him and continue on her way, Winter scowled at him. “Trust me, I don’t want anything from you.” But she paused, noting the way he leaned against the lamp post like he couldn’t even support himself. Against her better judgment, the words slipped out.
“Just how much have you had to drink?”
Just the thought of beating up some random thief was enough to get Qrow pumping with adrenaline, or it would if his circulatory system wasn't already filled with alcohol. Still, he maintained a firm grip on the handle of his weapon, turning towards-- Oh...it's that. Nonetheless, he didn't need to see to know who it was; He knew that voice, it was one that he recognized even when he was so drunk he could barely walk straight. Whipping out his sword, he pointed it towards the other and laughed loudly. "Hah--More than you can handle, you...you..." He blinked, shaking his head. "What's up with you...? I don't remember you being so...green." He squinted, his eyes locked onto the trash-can between them. Not even Qrow could catch a break from himself...

With the look of someone about to do something she’d regret, Summer gently nudged her partner, placing her hands on her hips as she looked up at him.
“Qrow, there are some books I wanted to get from the library, and… well, I—” she half-mumbled the next part, staring him down as if daring him to make fun of her for it. “Ican’treachthem. Would you mind coming with me to help get them down?”
Ohohoh, Qrow knew that look. He'd recognize that look anywhere. Almost immediately, he had the urge to chuckle at her predicament...and at her glare. The corner of his lip twitched, then it turned into a cheeky smile. "Sure thing, kid.” Qrow made sure to put plenty of emphasis on that last word, not even bothering to brace himself for the smack that would likely be coming his way soon.
He stumbled his way down the streets of Vale, having exited another bar. Absolutely ridiculous, what they kicked him out for. So what if he broke a chair trying to teach that punk a lesson? It's not his fault that the chairs there were so fragile! He took a moment to rest, leaning against a lamppost. Though when he did, he only just felt the tugging sensation at the back of his head, like someone was there. And there was. His hand crept towards his weapon, muscles aching for an excuse to break something. "I know you're there..."
