“mmm, yeah, you pesky bisexual. and you’re either gay or straight, you know that right? you can’t just be all safe in your lil’ sexuality. you have to choose eventually, or else you’ll probably get arrested.” to make sure stevie knew it was a joke, there was a stupid grin on her face and she was nudging her a little. despite trying to come off as ‘chill’ and ‘laid back’, kody got exceptionally aggressive when people invalidated different sexualities. she had so many different men telling her that she was too pretty to be gay, or looked way too straight to only like women. and then had way too many bi girlfriends to not know how bad it was for them as well. besides, she’d rather get passionate about sexualities than admit that she was a good sister. she never felt like she was, and she wasn’t about to lay her troubles out so quickly.
with her elbows on her knees, dakota’s arms hung down and she rolled her shoulders a little bit. it was a needed break from all of the hard work on the farm, she could seriously feel her muscles finally relaxing. and she tried not to think about what kian was doing and what he would be thinking with her gone for this long. it was nice to feel like she was making a connection in this small town, after meeting people and feeling like they were friendly but there was something missing. “yeah, i’m excited to get to know you, too,” she replied with a little smile, feeling a little more vulnerable than she had planned. but that was okay, for now.
jason had been happily jumping around, and had even walked up to where the water met the sand only to run away from it again. the only time he felt like swimming was when kody would bring him to the little lake out back — he’d jump in after her. “so, what can you tell me about this town? people to avoid, things to do when i’m not busy busting my ass over at the farm?”
stevie tossed back her head and let out a bark of a laugh when dakota teased her bisexuality. she’d hit the nail right on the head. that was the sort of bullshit stevie heard all the time, even from people who she’d thought were open-minded, intelligent individuals. it was an unbelievable comfort to know that dakota understood her, especially since she wasn’t bisexual (from what she gathered) -- and it pained stevie to say that a lot of gay women have invalidated her sexuality in the past.
she was dramatically relieved, so much so that her shoulders relaxed when she hadn’t even known they were tense in the first place. “well, i’m not gonna choose. so let’s hope i’ve got a good amount of time to hang out with you before the police come to take me to gay jail,” she teased with a laugh, exhaling a soft sigh. with the confirmation that her excitement to get to know the other better was reciprocated, she leaned over to nudge dakota’s shoulder with her forehead: an innocent, friendly (gay) gesture before returning her gaze to the waves, and jason. he was having the time of his life chasing them.
“hmm, what to do in stardew valley...” stevie pondered, pursing her lips. her hands ran up and down the stretchy fabric of her exercise leggings as she wracked her brain to remember what she did to kill time in high school. “well. there’s the bar, but everyone and their mom goes there. after happy hour, though, it clears out and is actually an enjoyable space to hang out in. there’s a movie theater the next town over. there’s a lot of beautiful woods here, though. i was gonna go jog on one of the zillions of paths before you interrupted me,” she teased, “and it’s just some of the most beautiful landscape you’ll ever see. but i think... hanging out with me is like, probably the best way to spend your time, though.” her smirk was subtle.
“as for people to avoid, they make it pretty obvious. not that there are a lot of them. but... you’ll know.”
