There couldn’t have been better weather for the festival. The sun shined brightly above Evangeline as she walked, warming her. The walk was just a bit longer than it normally was. Everyone else was going in the opposite direction- towards the festival. Until recently, Evangeline didn’t know a single soul who didn’t attend the festival. There were games and food and dozens of vendors from across the land. The King and Queen attended the festival, of course, and Evangeline could remember struggling to get even a glance at them. But Evangeline had even better plans for than day than some festival.
The climb up the tower had become routine. Knowing exactly where to place her hands and feet, she completed it in seconds. (Though, her excitement did have something to do with just how quickly she managed to get herself up the tower.) Once through the window, Evangeline smiled. While the entire kingdom was occupied with the festival, she would be spending the day at the castle. With the prince. And no one, except for the two of them, would have any idea about it. “Morning, Prince Joe.” She teased as a sort of greeting. Evangeline had stopped feeling obligated to call him Prince Joe long ago. He was just Joe. Her Joe. “Do you think they’ve left yet?” She asked, taking a seat on the bed. They had a whole castle to see, but, more importantly, Joe hadn’t been outside the tower in months. He deserved to be in the entirety of his own castle, not just locked up in one room. Really, he deserved to explore the whole kingdom. He was the prince of it, after all. Evangeline was lucky he deemed her worthy enough to spend hours and hours with in his tower. Or his castle, as the case may be.

evan’s back pressed harshly into the brick wall outside of the hideout. she stared out at the night sky, as she inhaled the cigarette between her fingers. it was almost silent, aside from hum of corroded coffin’s music. the harsh sound of guitar supplying some sort of ambience through the empty parking lot.
the music dulled out, cheers being heard from the crowd. she hadn't been in hawkins long, but it didn't take long to find out who the local dealer was.
when eddie walked outside she didn't notice at first, but he noticed her. walking past her, only to slowly walk backwards to stop in front of the girl.
“you’re new here, aren't ya? haven't seen you round here before.” there was a light, airy tone in his voice. something about him, felt ever familiar to evan. you can trust him. a voice in her head, told her. “just moved her, living with my grandparents on maple street.”
she stuck her hand out, an unusual action for someone of her age, eddie chuckled under his breathe but shook the girls hand. “eddie munson, nice to meet you, m’lady.”
“evan, nice to meet you. haven't been here long, but I've heard great things.” her thought process interrupted by the people coming out of the bar. “got a place we can talk." her eyes side glanced at the people surrounding them.
“sure, my van is over here,” he grabbed the new girl’s hand, not wanting to lose her in the crowd, and she let him. the warmth, a form of comfort. she's never met anyone she clicked with so easily, it was like the were past lovers, an unspoken connection.
after the pair settled in the floor of his van, she asked about his prices to which he calmly responded, “ya know what? you're cute, I'll just roll a blunt and we can smoke and I'll give ya a couple grams. don't even worry about it.”
a light blush covered the pale girl's face, she just thanked him, taking a hit and pocketing the baggie.

tw. abuse (one punch. verbal abuse.) shitty dad's. mention of a dead mother. backstory.
“you’re just like your mother!” her father's hand hit hard across her face. the sound of the hit echoed through the now silent room, evan heard it, long before she felt it. once she did, shock and anger equally fell through her body in waves. her hand slowly reaching to touch the burning and what she could assume, red skin.
“i’m nothing like her, or you. and you will never touch me like that again.” she turned on her heel barely missing his hand that was trying to grasp at her hair. she was moving as quickly as she could, her spirit outside of her body watching as she tried to fit as many of her material possessions into a tiny backpack and a bigger duffle bag.
sweat formed on the small of her back, as she pushed a dresser in front of her door. anxiety biting at the back of her neck as she climbed out of the window. her ankle burned as she landed on the dead grass, she walked on through the pain, trying to silently climb into her car. as he came blubbering screaming out of the door, she had started the car and was pulling out as fast as the car would possibly go.
“ungrateful little bitch!” and a glass beer bottle being thrown at the back tailight, only the the case around the light being broken.
after hours of driving, she finally pulled into the small, quaint town of hawkins, knowing her grandparents lived here in these gentle plains. she pulled her red corvette, a gift from her deceased mother. at the sound of a car pulling in, your grandfather, ben came out the door in a bolt, only to be met with the grandbaby, he hasn't seen in half a decade.
“evangeline?” leona’s, evan’s maternal grandmother, soft voice met evan's ear and she felt like she could cry. she pulled both other relatives in for a tight hug.
—
“what happened to your face, sweetheart?” leona placed a cup of hot tea in front of evan, as she sat across the kitchen table from the younger girl. a brownish bruise had formed on evangeline’s jaw. “dad hit me.” shock and sadness was seen in her grandmother's eyes, “i never did like that man,” the woman snarled.
her grandfather got up from his seat next to leona, and came around to pull evan in for a hug. “don’t you worry bout nothing, baby, you're safe with us. this is your home, now.”

@eveton @milcw
