please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the beauxbatons academy of magic, and their headmistress, madame maxime.
secrets
The veela are a race of magical humanoids that are descendants of the Sirens of Greek mythology, and also have an affinity to fire. They often appear as young beautiful women. Their mystical, captivating looks, touch, presences and especially their dance and voice are magically seductive to almost all beings attracted to their sex
Society
Veela, being a completely female race, live in colonies hidden across a large portion of France and elsewhere along Eastern Europe(Mostly in cold regions which pose the question why fire elemental creatures reside there). Although they are fierce warriors and completely protective of their kin, Veela's are more well known to want a life of peace rather than of war.
The life span of the Veela is currently unknown, as they are a secretive race of creatures and prefer not to expose themselves too much to the Wizarding World. It is speculated that they live around the same lifespan as a normal wizard.
Breeding
As the Veela race is made entirely of women, breeding with those of non Veela blood is essential for their continued survival. However, since this is a closely guarded secret, many outsiders believe that the blood dilutes over time and the presence of the Veela blood will soon be wiped out. That, however, is not the case. Every female born from the union of a Veela and her chosen mate is a full blooded Veela and every male born from the same coupling (while still breathtakingly beautiful) is nothing but a regular wizard. There are other theories about Veela breeding among themselves, but that is shrouded in mystery to those not of the colonies.
Magic
The veela posses their own type of magic, which does not require a wand. Their powers are believed to come mostly from their hair. If their hair is damaged in some way, or plucked unwillingly from a veela’s head they will either die, disappear entirely, or be stripped of their powers and beauty.
When veelas are angry, they transform into a monstrous bird like creature capable of flinging fire at their enemies. Great scaled wings, similar to that of flying serpent, burst from their back and, in this state, their hardened skin makes them impervious to most muggle and magical means of attack. This transformation was seen during the Quidditch World Cup where the Veela mascots transformed during the match.
As stated before their mystical, looks, touch, and especially their dance and voice are magically seductive to almost all beings attracted to their sex. Veela music and dance has the power to cloud people’s minds and make them want to do insane and self-destructive things in order to secure the notice of these desirable creatures. Researchers on Veela have stated that the magical quality to the Veela (The Thrall) are their super charged pheromones that they can release through their pores and from their hair. Other magical abilities of the Veela are largely unknown.
Mating
As a Veela that thrives off of love and the affections of it chosen mate. A mate is chosen seemingly at random, causing the veela in question to feel an unimaginable pull towards the person something that draws them in and makes all other beings irrelevant to them. The process of the courtship starts with a mutual understanding of the bond they are about to make, for Veela's mate for life and entering into a relationship with who is to be their mate is similar to an engagement. Once that initial bond is forged they slowly move through the courtship until they offer their mate a hair from their head, willingly given to give them control over them and finally join together sexually.
It is rare for a veela to ever mate with a Muggle, for their kind is mostly attracted to the magic of their world.
Differences from Humans
Without restating the change from the humanoid form to the true veela form, there are some differences within the Veela's humanoid form and the normal wizard you would face. To begin with, Veela's have heightened senses, easily attuned to different languages as their native tongue only known as 'Veela' which is so complex that it makes most other tongues simple for them to learn.
They are stronger than most humans as well, though not to a significant degree, and they seem near impervious to most illnesses.
