i hear a lot of cis gay men talk abt their experiences will internalized homophobia before coming out and experiences with dating women due to internalized homophobia, and that knowledge is enriching and those stories deserve to be shared, but i’d love to hear from gay trans men about their experiences with internalized homophobia before realizing they were gay men

it took me a while to realize i was only into guys bc my Big Queer Awakening was spurred by my best friend, a more fem-presenting genderfluid person, and bc i didnt realize i was a man for a long time. i went through a phase where i thought i couldnt imagine myself marrying a man, when i really just couldnt imagine myself marrying a man as a woman. i think it was less internalized homophobia than it was... knowing i was gay but not knowing my gender. i also wouldnt call it internalized transphobia though, if anything i denied myself questioning my gender for a few years bc i was afraid of misappropriating the label.
