Heyo! With pride month starting, here's a quick comic on pride Etiquette, a short guide / general tips on treating lgbt+ people, for the new, curious, and those who forgot!
1) Treat people's identities as the indisputable truth. Even if you don't think they fit the definition, even if you don't understand (the identity), even if you think they're lying, even if they're a bad person. It's not your job nor your business to tell people what to call themselves. Unless they ask for your opinion, only the individual can make that decision.
*There's very few times when an identity can actually be harmful. This includes predatory labels, labels that are bigoted by definition, or people identifying with culture-specific labels when they're not part of that culture. Otherwise, leave them be!
2) Respect and use people's pronouns, regardless of how you feel about them! If you don't know how they work, ask! If you accidentally misgender someone, correct yourself and move on! No need for lengthy or dramatic apologies. However, also make sure to ask when it's appropriate to use them! Someone may not be out to parents, certain friends, etc, and will ask you to purposefully misgender them for safety.
3) LGBT+ people are not responsible for someone else's anti-lgbt+ views! Strange, unbelievable or confusing identities do not cause bigots to be bigots- the lgbt+ community was made because we don't fit society's box, don't fall into the trap of forcing people into another one! If they're not actually hurting anyone, then leave them be!
4) You're not expected to learn every single lgbt+ term / identity. Nobody knows all of them, not even lgbt+ people, so don't worry about it! Simply learn and ask questions as you go!
5) If you're curious about someone's identity, ask if they're comfortable with questions first! There's no harm in educating yourself, but sometimes we get tired of being walking encyclopedias!
Thanks for reading, and happy Pride!!!
be just as willing to talk about your failures as your successes; we fail a lot in life, so put those failures to good use by learning how to improve.
I just wanna say it’s okay to feel how you’re feeling right now. It might be uncomfortable or feel wrong, but remember, it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to feel anxious, guilty, sad, or angry sometimes. These are normal human emotions. Let them run their course instead of beating yourself up over it. Give yourself lots of love and patience, and you will feel better
you are absolutely amazing. even when you make mistakes.
You have time. Don't rush yourself
you are not a house that is to be kept clean with no clutter and to look presentable you are not a house that needs to be neat or organized you are a home with people living in it you decide who lives there. the clutter is part of what makes you a home. you are a home that is overrun with vines but still needs to be taken care of. storms can do a lot of damage. you are not a house you are a home
this is. ok to rb btw
Omnisexual/romantic is a valid identity.
Bisexual/romantic is a valid identity.
Pansexual/romantic is a valid identity.
Polysexual/romantic is a valid identity.
Asexual/romantic is a valid identity.
None are born from hatred. They are all real and valid. You are real and valid.
Also,, none of these are biphobic! Or panphobic!! Bisexuality isn’t enough to describe some people and that’s okay! Y’all gotta understand that sexuality is subjective. There is no set definition as to what ‘Bisexual’ means, and it varies from person to person.
standing up for yourself does not make you a bad person
I am very proud of you for going through this long healing path.
You will get better.
trauma is not meant to be compared, it should not be about who had it worse or who had it less. every experience is valid and is just as important and real ♡︎.
doing what feels best for you is always the right thing. even if it seems logically like a bad idea. even if people in your life tell you not to. if something isn’t making you happy, leave it behind. if something feels right for you, do it. even if it’s scary- it’s the right choice
You're allowed to be confused. Your questions are not stupid. It's okay if you're having trouble figuring something out.
many of us still are in the process of learning to stop associating positivity with happiness and peace with control. you can have a positive mindset and be a positive person and still experience negative emotions like sadness or frustration, and you can be at peace without knowing exactly what happens next in your life. you are not failing because you cry sometimes or because you tend to get angry, and you are not inable to be at peace because you don’t know what happens next. live in the moment and do what you can and feel what you feel, that’s all you have to do.
mini checkpoint!
take a moment
please take some time to drink a cup of water !!! ✨✨
Be gentle with yourself, you are healing.
