The abandoned Loyola mansion, Maracaibo.
El abandonado palacete Loyola, Maracaibo.
I saw this a few days ago, a man driving around in Maracaibo without a tire.
And there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for this: Tires are extremely hard to find these days, and when you do find them, they tend to be very expensive as well, so many people are forced to buy used/damaged tires just to keep their cars rolling, which, as you can imagine, can fail at any time, and since it’s just not worth it to fix them, some drivers, like this man, would rather let them disintegrate than stop and pony up for a tow car, which only take cash, and I’ve said before, that’s very hard to come by these days.
Plus, many can’t give themselves the luxury of owning a spare tire, hence why he didn’t stop to change it either.
Don’t worry though, the police don’t give a fuck, so he could drive all day like that no problem, until either the rim disintegrates as well, the car catches fire, or fails to break in time and crashes.
All of which I’ve seen too.
Such is life in socialist Venezuela.

I’m definitely getting a floral vibe from this copy of the 1787 Pharmacopoea Gandavensis Nobilissimi Senatus Jussu Renovata. It has an amazing flower themed paste binding and floral-inspired decorative head pieces and chapter ornaments. It even has a very cute and very tiny flower basket as a colophon!
