Well, I got bored and I thought it might kill the time, once I ran out of Quidditch books to read. I learned a lot, actually.
You actually read it? You're not just playing a joke on me? [a surprised look appeared on her face, unable to stop herself] I must say, I didn't think you'd actually do it.
I don’t know…I have my own life outside of my clones. I don’t keep tabs on what they are up to. But technically you had met her before. You’d slept in a dorm with her for over five years. [Lavender gives a heavy sigh] I wouldn’t take it too personally, though I’m sure it’s hard not to. She has it out for the lot of you.
Oh, of course [a small blush crept up her cheeks, she hadn't meant to imply that particular Lavender was a clone, her personality just seemed a lot different from the Lavender she'd known for the past five years] I just meant that I myself have been gone for a while and she seems like a different person almost. I wonder if it's something one of my clones did that upset her? [she heaved a sigh and looked down at her notes again] Thank you again for saving these, I don't know what I would have done without them.
Well [Lavender drags the word out as she hesitates to answer truthfully] It was Violet, one of my clones.
Is she the one who tore down all my S.P.E.W. posters and tried to set fire to them? I don't now what her problem with me is, I had never even met her before that. [she sighs and smooths down the burnt edges of her notes, at least glad she hadn't made any new enemies, but still slightly confused as to why one of Lavenders clones disliked her so much to try and ruin her property.] I've never done anything to her, but she seems to really hate me.
Perhaps a clone took them? [sighs sympathetically] Oh, no, Arithmancy’s my best subject - I’ve got my notes memorised. I have faith that you’ll get them back to me in a timely fashion as well, anyway.
Yeah maybe... She would have asked though, the other one doesn't care much about schoolwork. I really appreciate this, Terry, no matter how well I know the material, I always like to look over my notes before an exam.
[Lavender winces slightly before telling the half truth] I think someone who considers you to be an enemy of sorts got their hands on them… I was in the aisle across the walkway looking for some book on healing when I saw them trying to light the pages on fire. I ran over and tried to put them out because honestly, I thought she was trying to set the whole place on fire.
[narrows her eyes at Lavender, clutching the notes to her chest so no harm can come to them anymore] You know who did this? I didn't think I had any enemies. [she frowns at the thought of someone disliking her enough to set her notes on fire, something she always takes some pride in for how well organized and extensive they are] Who was it?
[He relaxed slightly at her touch, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.] That sounds alright. Did I tell you that I finally read Hogwarts: A History? I thought you’d be proud of that.
[she quirked an eyebrow at him in surprise] Have you really? I thought you always said there was no reason for you to read it since I had memorized it by heart.
Haven’t, I’m afraid. That’s really bad, that is; our revision is due by next week. You can borrow my notes, if you want.
I know, this couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm always really careful with my notes, so I have no idea what happened to them. [sighs and runs a hand through her hair, checking her bag once more for the notes] Really? Are you sure you don't need them yourself?
[Lavender holds up a few pages that are singed around the edges and still lightly smoking, but she had at least managed to save them before Violet destroyed them] Yes, I do believe these very detailed and organized pieces of parchment belong to you.
[gasps and reaches for the parchments, assessing the damage and trying to salvage them with her wand] Those are 2 years worth of notes! What happened!?
[Walks over casually] You dropped them. [pulls them from his school bag]
[frowns] really? I don't even recall taking them out of my bag. [holds out her hand to take the stacks of parchment from him] Thank you.
Well… yeah, but I mean - I figured after reading for awhile we’d get distracted and have a quick snog. Though if you only want to read… that’s fine too. I want to finish this book the other Hermione lent to me.
[she chuckled softly at his flustered reaction and reached out to touch his upper arm] I was only joking Ron, let's just start off with reading and see what happens, okay?
Has anyone seen my Arithmancy notes? I went to get a book and when I got back they were missing from my bag.
[His eyebrows raised to his hairline at the mention of her room, about to mention the staircase that wouldn’t let him up there, but then he remembered that she had in fact been staying elsewhere and hiding.]
Oh, that sounds… well… would that be proper? I mean, me coming to your room for a snog.
[she raised an playful eyebrow at him at the mention of snogging in her room] Who said anything about snogging, Ron? You said you wanted to curl up on the couch with a book, if I remember correctly.
You think he’d let you stay in school while he’s off being rich and famous and all that? He’d probably make you quit so you could go off with him or something like that. You never know. [He shrugged, looking back at the doors to the school.] I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind going up to the Common Room and curling up together on the couch with a book.
Oh, don't be silly Ron, I'd never quit school before I finished my N.E.W.T.S, don't you know me at all? [She smiled brightly at his suggestion, but the thought of being very publicly affectionate turned her off just a bit. She wasn't quite ready to face any of her clones, or the other Ron, instead wanting to keep this between them if only just for today.] How about my room? The room I've been using, it's an old Head Girl quarters, it has a little separate sitting area.
[Hermione stared at him in surprise, not having expected him to understand exactly how she had felt that year without a hint of jealousy.]
Yeah, but like I said, it didn’t work out that way. Though I think I could have really fancied him if it hadn’t been for you. [She bit her lip and looked up at him with a small shrug]
[That comment made Ron a bit jealous, although he tried to squash it down and force a small smile on his face.] Well, I guess I’m glad you actually had feelings for me, then. Otherwise you might be off in Bulgaria having little unibrowed babies or something.
[She scoffed at the unlikely scenario, shaking her head] Not likely. I'd still be seventeen and in school. [She cracked a smile and moved her hand up to her face to brush some curls behind her ear, not sure what else to do. ] Should we go back inside...?
[Ron nodded in slight understanding. Maybe reading all of those books was actually making him a bit more considerate about things.] Yeah, I get it. You thought if you gave him a chance, maybe you’d actually really fancy him and then you wouldn’t have to worry about me, right? I guess that’s sort of the reason that I snogged Lavender.
[Hermione stared at him in surprise, not having expected him to understand exactly how she had felt that year without a hint of jealousy.] Yeah, but like I said, it didn't work out that way. Though I think I could have really fancied him if it hadn't been for you. [She bit her lip and looked up at him with a small shrug]
Then why did you kiss him? I mean, not that I care… I’m just curious, that’s all. [He shrugged nonchalantly, although it was very obvious from the look on his face that he did care. It’d been one of the reasons that he’d snogged Lavender, after all.]
Well... [Hermione averted her eyes, not sure how to answer his question. It'd been a complicated situation with Viktor showing obvious interest in her and her just waiting for Ron to turn around and notice her] I thought he deserved a chance, he was really nice and kind. I thought if I just gave him a chance.... [she sighed and bit her lip, looking back up at Ron] It didn't work.
[Ron blinked in surprise - that wasn’t something he was expecting to ever hear out of her mouth. She wanted him over Krum? Why hadn’t she just said so back then and saved them two years of trouble?] R-really? You wanted it to be me? I - I really wanted to be the one to bring you to the Yule Ball, but I guess I was too nervous that you’d turn me down and then… guess I messed it all up huh?
[Hermione smiled at his surprise and reached for his hand, lacing their fingers together like he'd done earlier] Yes, really. I turned him down first, because I was hoping you'd ask me, but you didn't, so I accepted his offer. He was perfectly nice, but just....not you.
