Monday morning in Toronto started with rain against the condo windows, the soft hum of the fridge, and Coach Stone standing in Wells’ kitchen like he had just discovered a national emergency.

He held up the plastic bag with two fingers.

“Bro,” Coach said slowly, staring at it. “Why is your milk in a bag?”

Wells looked over from the counter, still half-awake, still grinning into his coffee. “Because it’s milk.”

Coach blinked. “Milk goes in a carton. Or a jug. Not a bag.”

“In Ontario, it does,” Wells said, stepping over and taking it from him. “You put the bag in a pitcher, snip the corner, pour it out. Easy.”

Coach stared at the bag. Then at Wells. Then back at the bag.

“That is the most Canadian thing I’ve seen all week.”

Wells laughed, reached into the drawer, and pulled out the little plastic milk pitcher like he was presenting a sacred local artifact. “Welcome to Toronto, Coach. Bagged milk, streetcars, raccoons with attitude, and everyone arguing about the Leafs.”

Coach leaned against the counter, arms folded, that familiar smirk settling onto his face. “So you’re telling me this whole city just accepted milk bags as normal?”

“Pretty much.”

“Respect,” Coach said. “Weird. But respect.”

Wells poured the milk cleanly into Coach’s coffee, just enough to prove the system worked. Coach watched, nodded once, then took the mug from him.

For a moment, the kitchen went quiet. Rain on glass. Coffee steam. Morning light catching on Coach’s shirt and Wells’ amused expression.

Then Coach’s smile shifted.

He looked Wells up and down, set the mug aside, and nodded toward the bedroom.

“Since we’re already talking dairy,” Coach said, voice low and teasing, “how about we make some fresh cream before we hit the gym?”

Wells nearly choked on his coffee.

Then he grinned.

“Coach,” he said, “that was terrible.”

Coach shrugged. “Still worked.”

The gym could wait twenty minutes.

Maybe thirty.
