(  @heroesforsaken​ ​ )  violet  ring  floats  back  onto  the  womans  finger,  grimacing  at  the  fresh  cracks  in  the  wall.  ever  since  arriving  here  carols  ring  has  been  giving  her  issues  and  she’s  unsure  as  to  why.  perhaps  it’s  the  multi-dimensional  traveling  that’s  doing  it,  but  than  again  it’s  always  proven  to  be  difficult  to  handle.  “  sorry  about  that.  ”  crosses  her  arms  over  her  chest  to  try  and  hide  her embarrassment.  “  it…  normally  doesn’t  do  that.  ”

the ring is unlike anything they’ve ever seen before, and it’s hard for them not to stare as it finds it’s way back to her fingers. “it’s quite alright, it’s hardly the strangest thing that’s happened.” in their short time on earth, it seemed as if the universe, or universes, purposefully tried to one up themselves with the peculiarity of things at every given opportunity. “nothing to apologize for, i assure you.”

“i don’t know? is it?” he grins in a way that lets the other know it’s just a joke,  and while he truly would enjoy sparing with cass as they used to on those rare occasions they got to train together, the streets of new york are not the most adequate place to do it. “hey!” jon huffed. she had a point, but he wasn’t about to concede her this victory that easy. “i want you to remember i am invincible.” he joked, raising one eyebrow. it always made him happy to see cass joking around. he wasn’t fully aware of all the baggage the other carried on their shoulders, but he had an idea, sewn from bits and pieces of what both damian and cass had mentioned in passing. “i… dont? i guess we have to figure out how and why we were brought here in the first place?” 

“i’d say yes, but i think we both know who’d win, and that’s just not fun at all.” cassandra cain liked to win, and perhaps that could be attributed to their genetics, or the way they were raised, but they preferred to attribute it to the adrenaline rush they received every time they were faced with a challenge. survival and victory were two things she excelled at, and it used to be the only thing she cared about, but now... now there were people like jon kent who could help her forget about it all for a little while, and that was a debt she would always be trying to repay.  “face it, boy of steel, you’re kind of a train wreck.” every word is dripping with laughter as she continued to tease him mercilessly. though, she had to admit, it was a little frustrating to be stuck here with no idea of how to get home. “sounds like as good of a place to start as any...”

eddie didn’t know what the hell he was doing there. this was a place for heroes, not him. plus, he didn’t want to see peter parker within an inch of him. turning quickly to make an exit before being noticed, he slams quite hard into someone. “shit.” he mutters, “i mean… sorry.”

“fuck” getting slammed into was hardly andy curry’s ideal way to spent her day, but, considering she’d done it enough times in her lifetime, she couldn’t be particularly short about it. even if it was trying her patience. her leg however had a different opinion on the situation. “it’s fine.. it’s fine...” deep breathes, curry, deep breathes. “you okay?”

“  i  can’t  blame  you  .  it’s  pretty  sacred  to  us  !  ”  tula  lets  out  a  light  laugh  .  the  lighthouse  is  pretty  special  to  the  family  .  happier  times  ,  even  .  but  such  a  place  doesn’t  exist  in  this  world  .  brows  furrow  for  a  moment  when  her  niece  mentions  her  leg  but  brushes  it  off  .  “  if  you’re  sure  .  but  i’ve  ,  uh  ––  i’ve  been  okay  .  i’m  glad  some  of  the  family  is  here  .  arthur  and  mera  are  okay  ,  to  my  knowledge  at  least  .  ”

“it’ll always be my favorite place.” there’s more memories in the walls of the lighthouse than anywhere else for her, and it’s the place that she feels most at peace outside of the water. it was home away from home, and at a time like this, it was what she missed the most aside from her family, and, as they kept popping up, there was less to miss. she notices the way tula reacts to her slip up, and she’s holding her breathe until she seems to be satisfied with her answer. one of these days she’d get around to explaining the truth, but today wasn’t that day. “good, good, i’m glad everyone is okay...” it is a great relief to know that despite the shake up, her family is still alright. “are you sure you’re okay though? you kind of hesitated...” as if she was one to judge.

“i’m not really that smart,” peter said, though it wasn’t entirely fair. he was pretty smart, actually. not that he liked to brag. and not like it was always obvious. “there’s this theory, it’s called the multiverse. like multiple universes. it’s basically that there are alternate universes, and we can travel within them. it’s mostly theoretical, but this clearly proves that it isn’t. but it’s really crazier than i’ve usually seen it.”

“okay, then you sound smart, is that better?” while andy had never considered herself to be particularly unintelligent, everything he’d explained in the moments before had only managed to go over her head. so, when he started to speak again, she listened, following along the best she could. “so, you don’t think we went back in time to 2012... but went to another universe?” raising an eyebrow, the atlantean hoped that she was understanding what he was saying.

miles  knows  he  is  no  avenger.  and  the  only  reason  he’s  living  in  the  tower  is  thanks  to  his  connection  with  spider-man.  still,  he’s  not  used  to meeting  those  he  grew  up  idolizing.  “  sorry,  “  he  begins,  blush  on  his cheeks  as  he  reaches  to  shake  his   hand.  he  couldn’t  wait  to  tell  gwen  this  later!  “  my  names  miles,  i’m  a  friend  of  spider-man  or  uh,  peter!  if  you  know  who  that  is.  it’s  an  honor  to  meet  you.  ” 

“you don’t have to apologize, you haven’t done a thing wrong.” although the surprise had been apparent on their face at being recognized, it didn’t mean that it was particularly a bad thing. the moment reminded him of one he’d shared in westview, one of the few memories that truly made him wonder if it wasn’t something more than a dream. taking the hand offered, he gave the young man a firm shake. “oh, young mr. parker. yes, mr. stark has been quite fond of him.” given the nature of their work, they hadn’t had much time to spend together, but they had nothing but positive things to say about the young man given their limited experience together. “it’s a pleasure to meet you, miles, even under current circumstances.”

it felt as though every time tony tried to do right, tried to make the universe a better place, he failed desperately. nearly every attempt to improve things ultimately resulted in the world looking worse for wear. he wouldn’t say good things never came from what he did - after all, iron man was the result of years of mistakes, the avengers were a result of him taking a leap, the vision was a direct product of the disaster that was ultron - but the cost of those good things was questionable at times. maybe they would get home, and they would be able to restore their world, maybe they would even be able to restore it to a better version, one where natasha didn’t have to die. but what would happen to everyone else who had been taken from their worlds? what kinda trauma would people have to endure here before they got to go home? what if someone died in this world? was it permanent? 

there were so many unanswered questions, and honestly, tony didn’t know if he’d ever find the answers for them. he was doing his best, but it wasn’t enough and he knew it. he didn’t need anyone to tell him that. the sight of vision only provided more unanswered questions, but he found himself smiling nonetheless. tony walked over to him, putting both hands on his face and moving his head gently, looking him over. “my god, it’s really you. by all accounts, you really shouldn’t be here. it’s great to see you, too.” 

for all of the questions that filled their mind, the question of whether tony stark remembers him is answered in the smile he provides upon seeing them. vision allows him to take his face in his hands, examining him with a keen eye as if looking for any imperfections or deviations from memory. when he finally speaks up, they don’t find the stark’s comments to be incorrect, by all accounts, they shouldn’t be in twenty-twelve. whether it be due to the fact that by removing the mind stone that thanos had irreparably damaged them, or the fact that they were merely a thought in the current year, it didn’t matter. it did bring up the question of whether any of this was real, the same way it begged the question about whether the events of a life with wanda in westview were the results of their dying circuitry malfunctioning, or something more. now wasn’t the time for existential questions though, no, instead it was a time to take in the moment for what it was: a reunion that was never meant to be. “i don’t suppose i should.” they admit, a smile warm and real on their face as they look down at the man who had created them. “i must admit, i’m glad i am in spite of it all.” there’s a question on the tip of their tongue, one they aren’t sure the avenger can answer, so they keep it to themselves instead. time would certainly provide the answer, and given the current circumstances, other things took precedence. “do we have any knowledge of what has caused this anomaly, mr. stark? could it perhaps have something to do with the stones?”

“What metal gift did you get?” The words are sarcastic, he knows these weren’t gifts. They were given to them without permission. The arm he received from Wakanda? That was a gift, this? This was a burden – a curse. A wound he has to bear at all times. “ ‘s alright. At least it comes in handy at sometimes.” 

Metal gift. The words are dripping in sarcasm, but it’s enough to prompt a weak laugh from the mutant. The hell he’d endured in the process of receiving his gift was something he would never forget, and it haunted him even now. “You showed me yours, guess it’s only fair.” Turning his wrist to display the claws that made their appearance as he formed a fist, the pain a familiar feeling he was nearly numb to anymore. “My bones too, but can’t say I have the desire to show those off.” The claws retracting, he offered a nod at the soldier’s assessment. “At least there’s that.”

 if  members  of  the  curry  family  are  continuing  to  pop  up  ,  arthur  might  have  to  find  a  bigger  place  !  nonetheless  ,  she  smiles  warmly  at  the  sight  of  her  niece  .  “  wow  ,  the  lighthouse  ?  ”  sounds  like  she’s  taking  this  seriously  .  “  other  than  that  ,  are  you  okay  ?  no  injuries  or  anything  ?  ”

“it’s the most sacred thing i could think of at the time, okay?” andy admitted realizing how ridiculous it sounded in retrospect. as special as the place was to the family, it was just a lighthouse, and it was nothing without their family there to fill it with memories. “just my leg but - ” perhaps now wasn’t the time to mention that... complicated situation. “- it’s nothing serious. how have you been tula? is everyone else okay?”

megan, as usual, stuck out like a sore thumb. she never had any qualms with her mutant or fae heritage (she actually embraced them fully,) but she knew both the pointed ears, pink hair and the iridescent rainbow wings seemed to draw many eyes, especially when a passer-by seemed to run into them by accident. “i know i take up a little more space than other people, but please be mindful!” she says kindly, “my wings do feel like the rest of my body.”

another day, another attempt at trying to get used to life on a version of the surface she scarcely recognized. to boot, her leg had been aggravating her, not entirely cooperating as she made her way down the street, which, unfortunately, meant she ended up bumping into some poor unfortunate soul. “sorry, sorry, that was my bad....” it was easier than explaining that her left leg was an alien fish prosthetic that occasionally had an opinion of it’s own. “are you okay?”

 the  smile  finally  breaks  out  and  she  arches  an  eyebrow  “i  went  from  looking  like  shit  to  too  hot  just  like  that  ?  interesting.  ”  the  woman  jokes  “  they  are  yet  to  make  a  patch  that  is  constantly  pumping  caffeine  into  you,  but  when  they  do  i’ll  be  the  first  to  get  it.  unfortunately  my  coffee  ran  out  in  my  shitty  apartment.  ”

“you can be hot and still look like shit. they aren’t mutually exclusive. besides, you’re always hot.” she teased cheekily, chuckling as she leaned back in her seat.  “you and me both, in the mean time though, want to go get some coffee? i’ll even buy.” it wasn’t as if she was hurting for money, not that you’d know it by looking at her own shitty apartment.

“too many men with fragile egos and daddy issues working on a problem.” felicia’s frustration is matched with helena’s own as she rolls her eyes thinking about the self proclaimed genius inability to even find the root of the problem. “if they’d work together maybe we’d be home by now, or if the avengers didn’t have egos the size of fuckin’ texas we would have never ended up here in the first place.”

“i’ll be real with you.” brutal honesty was a specialty for helena bertinelli, and paired with coffee, it was a match in heaven. the heiress lets tatsu finish her question, sipping on her coffee before giving her judgement. “people probably think you’re batshit, but honestly? sometimes that’s the best thing. it means people leave you alone and let you get your business done without interruption like the badass you are.”

frankly, it was easy enough for gamora to see how people could do that. “i can’t blame people for that. in my original timeline, i’m dead,” she said flatly. “i know i’m not alone in that.” she couldn’t ignore what was happening, and she didn’t want to, nor did she want to live in the past. but it was difficult to live with the knowledge that reversing all of this meant going back to her death.

tora olafsdotter knew she was one of the few people who could say that they had died and gotten the chance to live again, and she knew just how rare that was. the majority of people were’t so lucky, and as her companion speaks up, she realizes she’s among the many. it’s easy to have faith that things would work out when they had for her, but there is a sense of dread that crosses her mind as she realizes it might not be so black and white for the rest of the displaced residents. “if it were me... i don’t know that i would want to go back without knowing what was going to happen when i got there.” pausing, she shared “i died once... and i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. i’m so sorry it happened to you.”

“my only personality trait? how you wound me, lorna.” a hand is placed above his heart as he feigns pain before rolling his eyes and breaking out into a smirk. “well, if it’s my only personality trait, shouldn’t i at least stay consistent? otherwise how would you ever recognize me when we get back home?” he’s raising an eyebrow, but the question is dropped as she talks about her family line. “pretty sure family issues come with the territory... at least it comes with so advantages sometimes.”

“i guess you’re right about that... but grandpa is only slightly better.” logan wanted to be serious with them, almost sound scolding, but instead what erupted was a short fit of laughter as he shook his head at the mutant. “oh, i hate it, but what can you do?” shrugging, it did give him a reason to ask “how are you handling twenty-twelve, kid?”

“  i  don’t  know  who  professor  x  is,  my  knowledge  is  limited  to  what’s  been  told  to  me.  ”  he  admits,  brow  raising.  he’d  heard  about  the  group  during  the  earthquake  and  he  knows  in  order  to  get  home,  they  all  have  to  work  together.  “  i’m  trying  to  get  me  and  my  team  home,  was  told  they  might  be  able  to  help.  ”  

“if you want to get them to do anything, professor x is the guy you’re going to want to look for.” while every member of the x-men had their own agendas, and their loyalty to the group as a whole waivered, there was a general acceptance among the lot of them that if charles xavier believed in something, it was probably worth at least a listen, most of the time anyway. raising an eyebrow after his explanation, logan couldn’t help but ask “don’t you think if we knew how to get out of here we wouldn’t have already left?”
