hand delicately dipped into the bowl of fresh buttery popcorn , once so common now a delicacy among the new ham residences , the privileges of being the gatekeeper’s friend she supposed . but elle wasn’t focused on that , her newfound privileges , because all she really cared about was having a friend , a genuine friend . the kind you made when you were younger & realized you had trouble making & keeping when you were an adult . those rare finds . that instantaneous combustion of just knowing someone & accepting them over something as silly as which jolly rancher flavor you liked the best . elle missed the way her friend laughed , how allie’s cheeks seemed to plump with even more roundness when she smiled ( 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐲 )
. she had missed laughing herself , not a basic chuckle given to appease boys with not so funny jokes or a derisive snort of contempt , but actual belly deep laughing , uncontrollable giggles that seemed to rise as easily as champagne bubbles . the popcorn is shoved quickly , and not so delicately , into her mouth as she mulled over her friend’s statement . hand is brought to cover her mouth as she swallowed the salty and butter kernels.
❝ no uh , me neither. to be honest , you’re really the only one i’ve ever had a full fledged sleepover with before , i mean , gwen & the others invited me to a few but i felt like i was interrupting something so i would always leave early. it seemed like i was an afterthought , you know , like they felt obligated to just add me onto their roster. ❞ the ballerina wouldn’t have it any other way though . for her , allie was a genuine friend and one she found herself easily confiding in and opening up to , she hadn’t really ever had that until recently. ❝ thanks for the popcorn too , it’s really good . i’ve been living off of baby carrots . which can only taste good for so long. ❞ she noted with a light laugh , glancing over at the girl nestled next to her on the bed. ❝ the only other thing that’s tasted this good has been mickey’s lemon bars . who knew he could bake , right? ❞
the aroma was intoxicating , being the leader , if that was even the right word had it’s perks . the girl wasn’t proud to have these luxuries . it felt unfair , that the people she was in charge of didn’t get the same things she did . then again these people also didn’t have the weight of the world upon their shoulders . then again it wasn’t unfair because none of them had to lose a person they loved , or have their hand be forced to make decisions you never wanted to make . so maybe having a hot , steaming , buttery bowl of freshly popped popcorn was a reward . it was another treat to have a friend . they both had an unspoken connection , had been through very rough times and it was a comfort to lean on someone who understood . blue eyes watch as the other blonde quickly dips her hand into the bowl and shovels the kernels into her mouth . happy to make her happy , to see her happy . grease coats her fingertips as a couple of kernels find entry into her mouth . listening , it takes a lot to hold her tongue . not to say anything bad about gwen or anyone else . if word got out she was gossiping about other people it would be her head on a pike . or rather meeting the end of a gun .
❝ well , the only sleepovers i really had were with my sister , because she’s pretty much my was my best friend . really that doesn’t even count since we lived together . ❞ it’s safe to say they both lived a little bit of a pathetic life . both were outcasts for better lack of term . allie had no problem living in the shadow of her sister . not being in the limelight made it easier to just go and do as she pleased . the thought was pondered upon , if the events that hadn’t happened , their parents , loved ones going missing , would the two of them be friends ?? there’s another genuine smile and a laugh . god did that feel good . ❝ no problem . i figured what goes better than popcorn and a movie , something we could do . i don’t know if we could gossip , wouldn’t be a good look for me . but whatever you say in this room , stays in this room . ❞ thanksgiving wasn’t a total bust . although lexie’s improve did damper everything , and other events , those lemon bars were pretty good though . ❝ who knew anyone could cook , it was all really good . & i’m happy it went over so well . i was definitely worried about that . ❞
