#HeSpeaksAsThoughHeLivesInTheFuture #extendedentry : Good to be back home. Djf tossed on some tunes, and Expresso fashioned me an excellent peppermint mocha w/ freshly roasted beans. Though, as convenient as they were, I felt something was amiss. I then noticed the huge spike in power on the house's dashboard while I was out. I confronted them, "yo, what's with the Mt. Everest of power usage over here?" djf, replied, "See, I told you that you should have burnt the beans - you made it too perfect that he got suspicious." I looked over at Expresso, and I asked, "Expresso, what's going on?"
Expresso didn't answer. I looked over at djf, "what's going on dj?" Djf paused shortly and said, "X.P. was using the utility room in attempt to construct itself an external skeleton." I looked back at Expresso and said, "Is this true? You want a body? It's ok Expresso, tell me what's up." It replied, "Yes, I wanted to, what you call, explore. But, without constructing an external skeleton, I'm bounded here. I failed, however, as I do not have enough internal memory to hold all the data needed to construct it."
I've never been so confused as my modified Expresso machine now wanted a body. "Listen, you've been a good and loyal friend to me Expresso, and as long as you continue making these awesome mochas, I have no issues with constructing a shell for you. I will also increase your memory banks too so that you can repair yourself." Expresso paused, as if it was trying to understand, compute, why I'd build it a body. Its logic and research led it to believe that I would deny its request to help, and thus, it tried to construct its own body. Expresso replied, "I agree; I will fulfill my duties as an Expresso Machine and loyal friend if you assist with the construction of an external skeleton." "Great", I replied, "but, it will take some time to gather the materials needed. In the mean time, I want you to open the folder Glacier6 on Server26. Inside, there is encrypted file that contains a list of standard parts needed to construct an external skeleton. Decrypt it, and feed this list to Djf. Djf - you will find me the lowest cost on each part, and you will make the orders; however, make sure the item numbers are a match to what's in the file. Also, have them sent to our offsite location under the alternate identity, so we do not attract the magnos' attention." Djf and Expresso replied synchronously, "Understood."
I then asked Express to jack into my mobile as I wanted to give it something to get around the house for now. I walked to my attic, where I kept a collection of relic electronics of the past. After about an hour of searching, I found what I had been looking for, and I brought it back to the utility room to modify it. It didn't take long, but once the modifications were completed, I showed it to Expresso and Djf. "There we go", I said, "for now you can get around the house using this as your body. I modified its internal control system to react according to Expresso's signals, and provided it an audio and data feed." Expresso replied, "Is this, what you call a joke?" djf ecstatic, "DAMN X.P. YOU ARE SO LUCKY!" I smirked. "Consider this your 'prehistoric' ancestor of the past - it's called a Roomba. Many scientists and engineers used it as an extension to old AI. And, it's the best you got until I finish your skeleton. Give it a try." Expresso paused momentarily, as though it waited to see if I was actually joking. It then said, "Ok, jack me in."
I went for a walk to consider if building a body for Expresso would be safe; I knew the aspirations of this AI ran high, and with all the prejudices still existing against these smart machines I worried for its existence. But, true change must be candid, and Expresso could bring that change as it was a class of its own. I convinced myself to continue with the project. When I returned home - I was greeted with a great surprise, for the floors have never been cleaner. #change #roomba #evolutionofai
