I keep seeing people saying Dot & Bubble should have been written by a black writer so it could do a better job representing the black perspective. We do absolutely need that perspective, but NOT in this episode.

Because the Doctor looks black now, but culturally and mentally he isn't. He's an old white guy just like the writer, and he has NO IDEA about racism. He didn't notice everyone in Finetime was white. He gave Lindy the benefit of the doubt, he excused or misinterpreted the microaggressions, he was part of the same oblivious white audience RTD was calling out!

Until that final moment when he realized he WASN'T. And NOW he's starting to understand the nasty truths that black people grow up knowing. NOW he's ready to be part of a story about racism from the oppressed perspective (or as much as he can be without growing up in it).
