This is an experimental photo using a backlit manikin in the woods. The fallen trees that surround the site reflect the ambient lighting, the manikin conveys an otherworldly and surreal aspect to the scene which is only enhanced by the trace of light which tracks away and into the dark spaces. Analogous to the path of a departing spirit or our paths in our darkest times .... and with that cheerful thought I'll leave you to enjoy the image ;-)

Shot at dawn in Kings Park (Perth, WA) the poppy is one of those from the Tower of London Poppy installation.

This image was taken next to the Memorial of Remembrance and looking over the CBD through a pair of WAs ubiquitous palm trees.

Working on an adaptation of Cabanels “Birth of Venus” this version in a swimming pool uses the reflectance in the water of the flame (a symbol of renewal and cleansing) with the reference to Cabanels reclining Venus from the painting. Its a time exposure and my poor model had to stay as still as possible for 30 seconds to get this shot.

There is little photoshopping (the flames were part of the exposure), just tidying up the image, cropping and a little vignette.

In the museum at Melbourne. Thankfully they’re 1) all dead and 2) between substantial glass sheets !

My neighbour has a single cactus growing in a pot outside his door. I got back the other night and it's out in flower. Way out. It threw out a stem over the weekend - 20cm in a few days and then grew itself a flower on top and it's amazing.

Selfies: A compound image of about 20 self-portraits which are stacked on top of each other and then cut away leaving a 3D sculpture of my head. The work tackles the essential dilemma of photography which is that an image captures a single moment in time and is an essentially 2D concept. The multiple images were taken over an extended period of time in multiple locations. You see them all and ask yourself what happened at the other places and when were they ... Didactic panel or what ?

Fremantle Maritime Museum, Western Australia. Cunningly hides a submarine in the dry-dock which it’s sat in front of. Shot in the early morning and just after dawn, the lighting is cool and flat without much of the high contrast which is associated with Western Australia. The sky isn’t original but was added as a monochrome to add impact to the scene.

the cover image for a conceptual CD cover and based on Magrittes “Treachery of Images” (This is not a pipe) and his “La paysage en feu (The country’s on fire) I was able to convince my model to sit for long enough for the live flames to register before pulling her away. Safely !
