yk what would go crazy is 1) wyll and karlach killing demons in hell two player couch co-op game (smthn like split fiction) and 2) fanfic abt the 6 months in between that addresses the fact that neither karlach nor wylls central Issues were really ever resolved and the choice to go to hell is rly just kicking the can down the road w confronting that (karlach moral messiness and wylls self sacrificial hero persona) and they are rly messy and toxic..hm. and wyll is a girl

Karlach’s romance story in bg3 is fundamentally the story of falling in love with someone who is dying. A real thing a lot of real people live and die through from both sides of it.

That’s why I think that the narratively satisfying ending to her story is for her to blow up at the end of the story.

I don’t want her to. She’s blorbo from my video game. I want her to live forever. It’s what her romance arc is leading towards though. Giving her a lifetime’s worth of love and companionship in just a couple of months. She literally burns so bright that she fizzles out. You can’t get much more symbolic than that.

I reached the part where you go on a proper date with her and there’s a lot of talk about death in that scene along with all of the awkward and fun date talk. Like her upcoming death is sitting over every part of the conversation, even the parts that aren’t about that.

It’s a lot like actually talking with someone you love who you both know is going to die soon. Pretending to live normally, squeezing joy into every second you can, trying really hard to not grieve in advance, making plans that you both know aren’t going to happen.

The upcoming tragedy is potent and thick in the air but the joy of the moment is there too. Whoever wrote that scene understood fully what that’s like in one way or another. It’s uncanny how familiar it feels.

#yea i keep changing my opinion of her #bg3 is a thematic mess bc it is fundamentally a collection of hype moments and not an actual story #but it would be neat to have a character w basically no happy endings allowed #bg3 #txt #karlach
