mark-holstrom:
If y’ say s’, Sid.
Why do you seem so grumpy today?
the-andy-vickers:
“My bag got caught on the book display! And, as I recall, you were the one who ‘just had to show me this book’ and caused me to jerk towards you, bringing the display down with the book shelf. I’m never going shopping with you again.”
“Hey it’s not my fault that you have no grace or balance.” Sid said laughing at her friend. “come on lets get out of here so they stop glaring at us.” She said grabbing Andy’s hand and leading him out of the shop.

Hesitantly, Grace took the blindfold from Sidney but didn’t cover her eyes with it just yet. “Now I’m really fucking curious. What kind of surprise is it that I gotta be blindfolded? You know this is, like, the set up for some shitty horror flick.” She teased before taking the blindfold and tying it over her eyes. She trusted Sidney enough to not see where she was being taken. However, she had to admit that being in a car and feeling the movement but not seeing anything was a very odd sensation.
At Sidney’s questions, Grace merely laughed. “Nope. No one tried to push me into the lake; but this one counselor named Travis got pushed into the pool by me and some of the other girls during our free weekend… He’s actually from Roseboro too, just moved to town.” She replied, reminiscing briefly on what had happened between the two of them at camp as a smile found its way to her face. At Sidney’s next words, the smile only widened. “Don’t worry. I missed you too.” She replied, turning to face the other girl, even though she couldn’t see her. “But at least you had a cat to keep you company. I had eight fifth grade girls.”
Feeling the car come to a stop, Grace began to reach for her blindfold, not going to untie it; but just going to make sure it was still secure. She heard Sidney get out of the car; and then she heard the passenger door open and felt the rush of crisp night air. Reaching up, she let Sidney take her hand and lead her out the car to wherever she was being taken. When she felt the blindfold being taken off, Grace closed her eyes just like she was told. She really wanted to peek, just to know what the surprise was; so the instant Sid told her to open her eyes, she did.
“What the-?” She gasped in shock, turning to look at her friend. “What is this?” She was standing in front of a beautifully decorated table, with lights twinkling all other the place and making the atmosphere even more picturesque; but she was confused. Why here? What was Sidney up to?
Laughing, Sid brought the chair out for Grace to sit in. “This is your surprise. I figured with everything that was going on and all the crap that you had to deal with from your parents, I figured you needed a night that wasn’t involved in all of that. Plus it gave me a reason to decorate the backyard.” Sid said laughing as she sat down.
Moving the lid from the tray, the girl pulled out the array of fruits and a bottle of cider and put it on the table. “It’s still to hot of a lot of hot foods, but I figured a nice night out under the stars would relax you after all the stuff that’s been going on. Besides you can catch me up on summer camp and I can catch you up on what’s going to happen come senior year.” The brunette said smiling at Grace. It was nice to just be here with her and not have to worry about anything.
The only issue is, Grace didn’t look as happy as she wanted her to be. Sidney hoped that she wasn’t the only one feeling feelings but just in case she decided to hold off on telling Grace for the time being. She wanted to see how the night went first. “So tell me, how did you enjoy summer camp?”

Grace had absolutely no idea what kind of surprise Sidney had in mind; and when she was asked to wear a nice dress, she was even more confused. She and Sidney had become pretty good friends over the past few years, mostly because of how much time Grace had spent getting extra help with math from her mother. Sidney had been around sometimes; and they just started hanging out. And from there, their friendship blossomed. Grace knew Sid was one of those girls she didn’t have to worry about judging her. She always seemed to know just what to say to keep a smile on Grace’s face; and Grace appreciated that very much. There was just something special about her. She enjoyed her company.
After receiving the text, Grace began to ready herself for whatever the surprise was. Deciding on one of her own designs, she put on a short-sleeved light blue dress, threw her hair up into a messy (but still somewhat neat) bun, and slipped on a pair of low white heels. Taking one last look in the mirror as she heard the knock on her front door, she put the finishing touches on her makeup, grabbed her purse, and headed for the door.
“Hey.” She smiled when she saw Sidney standing in the threshold. “You look great.” She added, giving the girl a subtle once-over before following her into the hallway and closing the door behind her. “Lead the way.”
Smiling, Sid led Grace down to her car and got in. “Ok before we do anything I need you to put this on.” She said handing the girl a blindfold. “It’s just until we get to were I am taking you.” Sid said laughing at the look on her face. Pulling out of the driveway, Sid smiled a bit as they headed back towards her house. “So how was camp? Any little kids try pushing you into the lake?” She asked laughing. Sid remembered one summer she volunteered and almost got hit at the archery range. “I missed you while you were gone, it was lonely hanging out with my cat all day.” She said smiling. Even with the blindfold on Grace still looked pretty.
The butterflies in the girls stomach got worse as she pulled into her drive. Shutting the car off she walked around to the passenger side and opened the door. “Ok, don’t take that blindfold off until I tell you too. I’ll lead you.” She said helping Grace out of the car. Her hand felt soft in Sid’s and the girl smiled at the fact that her surprise was about to be seen.
Leading her around the bag, Sidney opened up the back gate and carefully brought Grace through. “Almost there.” She said as she brought the girl up and stood her in front of the table . “Ok keep your eyes closed.” Sid said untying the blindfold and taking it off her.
“Ok...open.”

Sid smoothed her dress out in front of her mirror and smiled. She had spend the past two weeks planning this night for Grace, something that would make her smile after all the shit she had been through. The young girl had spend most of the day putting up the table and the lights in her backyard to make it look all lit up and like something out of a fairy tale. Her parents promised to stay out of the house so the only thing left to do was go get Grace. Sidney had hoped that the night turned out how she wanted and didn’t blow up in her face.
Heading downstairs she grabbed her keys and walked out the door to her car. She was happy that she sky decided to stay clear and that the breeze out cooled things down a bit. Starting the engine, Sid backed out of her driveway and headed towards Grace’s house. The music was playing soft in the car as she went over what she was going to say in her head. Pulling into Grace’s place, she got out and walked up to the door and took a deep breath before knocking.
“Hey beautiful. Welcome back. You ready to go?”

the-andy-vickers:
“Yeah…sure.”
“I’m serious though; I actually knocked over the entire shelf. The store manager was not too happy with me.”
“Well whose fault is that! You gotta be more careful when you’re in places. I swear you’re like a bull in a china shop.”
stevietemples:
