Other than those two, though, she wasn’t very much a fan of video games in general. “I’m more into cartoons than anything.”

“Yeah. I think any good mom…or parent in general, mind you, just wants the best. My dad certainly had no issue with us moving out here - besides the fact that our weekly fishing trips in spring had to be cancelled. Now I can only stay with him during summer,” Which sucked. He loved his dad - he had been a good man. Maybe not perfect - maybe too concerned with business some days and too strict in some aspects and too goofy in others, but there was not a doubt in Danny’s mind that his father had a good heart and tried his best. 

He listened to her answer through and through. It was…great, to say the least. Really deep and meaningful. He liked it…and the first sentence she said mirrored his life exactly. It almost scared him. What was her story?

“Yeah, yeah - that makes a lot of sense.” He didn’t tell her it was because the brightness had disappeared from his life too. Of course not. It was too early to tell anyone. People had big mouths. “That’s good. I think I took the complete opposite approach. Probably worse for me…no, not probably. Definitely worse for me. I mean - I keep thinking about all the positives at home, but…that just makes me hate here, which isn’t necessarily fair to a town that’s done nothing wrong.”

“Well then, I’m sure you’ll find something to like.” Stevie became a little excited. was this a chance to show off everything she liked about this town? “Like, I’ve seriously been in and out of Dewey’s so much the cashier knows me by name mostly because I can’t find that good of cherry salt water taffy anywhere , and Sloan’s the best Art Teacher on this side of the country, Oh! and a little past town is like the best florist ever,” She stopped herself from rambling again. “Sorry, but uh, Roseboro could have been worse. What do you like to do? I’m sure there’s some way to make good use of it here.”

“No i uh... I feel that. She probably just wants what’s best for you, is all.” Stevie held back an unnecessary comment along the terms of ‘nah, I wouldn’t know. I don’t have one’. While maybe the dry remark would maybe be a little funny to her, It was probably best to hold back around new people. 

she thought hard about his question, but really more on her answer. “I think.... I think that life over there and the brighter times that came with it were long gone by the time Roseboro was considered an option. Does that make sense?” Her leg bounced rapidly, an action pretty frequent whenever these sort of conversations happened. “But I mean, I really thought hard about it. I would have missed my dad, and I wasn’t the most popular but I had my friends — not good ones, mind you, but still friends. I had a cat named Slug that I couldn’t take with me, my room that was way bigger and awesome, might I add,” she stopped herself before she just snowballed her way into a false sense of nostalgia. “...That stuff sucked to leave behind, but I knew that it would be best for me to leave it behind. I guess I just naturally tried to push out the bad things about this place, so I just never had the chance or need to hate it.”
