Gustave Flaubert, from a notebook entry written c. September 1839 (x)
“When I _____. (The Promises of God). When I am weak, He is strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9) When I am alone, He is with me. (Joshua 1:9) When I am broken, He is the healer. (Psalm 34:18) When I call, He listens. (Psalm 34:17) When I ask, He answers. (John 14:12-14) When I stray, He pursues me. (Matthew 18:10-14) When I am in battle, He fights for me. (Exodus 14:14) When I worry about my future, He’s got a plan. (Jeremiah 29:11) When I was dead to sin, He brought me to life again. (Romans 6:7-11)”

“Many of us say we want to hear God’s voice, but then we fill our hearts and minds with things that would never fit in a heavenly environment. We want the clarity of heaven, but take deep breaths of the polluted air of the world. We willingly tune in to mixed signals and then complain about not being able to discern God’s voice. If we want the clarity of heaven in our lives, we need to saturate ourselves with heaven’s atmosphere. Our spirits will be much more sensitive to God’s voice when we’ve surrounded ourselves with the things His voice inspires. Worship-saturated, glory-permeated souls hear God more often and more clearly than those steeped in unholy messages.”

Give up everything, however precious, which comes between you and heaven.
