is anyone else just going through life like “yeah i just gotta get past this last difficult week and then it’s smooth sailing from there!” but like… every week
We need to destroy the idea that teenagers showing genuine signs of depression are “just being teenagers” and that they are “just experiencing normal mood swings”
fucking please!! lemme explain to ya’ll something. I am a mentally ill person who now works in the field of psychology and I often interact with other mentally ill people (both clients and people from day to day situations)
I work with adults from 18-fucking 60′s and 70′s. The most common thing I hear is about how they have exhibted symptoms from a young age but never saw treatment in their younger days because their family either shamed them, wouldn’t let them, guilted them about it or completely wrote off and undermined their mental health.
Your teenager who won’t leave their bed or do their homework isn’t lazy, they could be suffering from depression.
Your teenager who won’t ask the cashier at Walmart for the correct change or can’t seem to make friends might not be a late bloomer, this is a symptom of anxiety.
Your teenage son who likes to bully and beat up his sister, family pets or other kids isn’t just “being a boy”. The intention to hurt others from a young age is a symptom of an aray of disorders.
Your child who expresses suicidal thoughts or engages in reckless behavior isn’t going through a rebellious stage or just experiencing normal hormones, they are struggling with their mental health and the affects left untreated could be deadly.
Please, please, please talk to your kids about mental health at a young age and let them know that you are willing to find them professional help if they ask for it.
So many years of life could have been improved for the mentally ill adult if they were given an opportunity of treatment and understanding from their childhood.
Raise your hand if no matter how fucking hard you try you seem to screw up everything and are ultimately a piece of shit.
*Raises both fucking hands*
Ugh
physically my body is here but mentally I’m in the astral plane beating myself up in the target parking lot
me: *is mindful twice in one week*
me: I am the epitome of recovery

YOU GUYS!!! If you have trouble sleeping, get panic attacks, or just need to listen to something while studying, spotify has an asmr playlist! It’s honestly so nice because on YouTube you can’t turn your phone off but you can for spotify so you can just focus on the sounds! Treat yourself to some relaxation time, it’ll really help.

The problem with a mental illness is you can be fine for a while. Just completely and totally functional like a normal person. Then for no reason whatsoever you feel that overwhelming feeling of hopelessness, sadness, or worry. And it feels like you’re just back to square one. The sudden feeling that you don’t matter always comes back. The worst part is you can never explain to someone why, it’s just how your mind works.
