The idea of Spectacle 2.0 can mean a lot of things. In the Vejby and Wittkower article, they refer to spectacle by alluding to the idea that people wear football jerseys but do not necessarily play football but enjoy watching it. So what else in our society could we consider spectacle? If you want to consider the social media aspect of spectacle, you can look at what we do on social media sites.  At least in my own usage of social media, I like to follow Twitters of comedians because they usually post some hilarious tweets. I myself do not want to be a comedian nor do I think I am funny enough, but I follow people like Chelsea Handler, JessieMae Peluso, and Chris DeStefano because they are a spectacle. 

On the other hand, would it be considered succumbing to spectacle if you use social media to try to become part of the spectacle. For example, if I connect with people on LinkedIn that are in the same field I want or have a job in, would that be considered as being part of the spectacle itself? (might be a dumb question but I am also a slightly confused by the idea of what spectacle actually entails, if anyone wants to explain that would be cool)

Introduction

Hi! I’m Harrison Dean. I am currently a senior at Rutgers University. My major is Communications with a specialization in Public Relations and a minor in Digital Communication, Information, and Media (DCIM). I transferred to Rutgers last year after receiving my associate degree in Photography. I am pretty active on social media including Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Wordpress, LinkedIn, Vine, and am currently compiling an online portfolio of my photos (mostly surf and editorial shoots). 

I essentially live at Starbucks (french vanilla latte with a quad shot) to the point where it would be easier to have caffeine infused into my blood stream through an IV. My music choices span from Bruce Springsteen and The Beatles to Andrew Jackson-Jihad and Brand New — “with a little help from my friends” (haha). I have now memorized the winning combinations in a standard deck of Cards Against Humanity and go to The Inkwell in Long Branch at least twice a month. 

I am never on time for anything, but I’m getting better! If I’m given the choice, I choose Chipotle 100% of the time. I’m incredibly OCD and fairly ADD. My drink of choice is a Jack and Coke. Overall, the general consensus is that I’m a pretty weird kid, but my friends don’t seem to mind =p.
