Just a little bit. But..when he mentioned about Flannery taking care of herself..she went a little quite for a moment.

"I'm...okay I guess." Flannery gave Kabu a weak smile as she casually toyed with her white cloth belt.

"Been working hard with not just my Pokémon but..myself too. Heh,its..easier said than done for sure. So..I figured I'd check up on you too. Since..you've been quite the inspiration for me when I've been down on my luck."

She grimaces a little. "Which...happens to be quite a lot,lately. But,I'll be okay! I promise."

"Hmm. It rather sounds like you needed someone to tell you to worry about yourself, little Flan."

Though strict, he chuckled teasingly at the young woman through the screen after his words, picking up on some of the insecurities of her question.

"Tell me, when is the last time you've visited places outside of Hoenn? A change of scenery keeps one's mind sharp."

"Oh its okay! I hear that Galar is rather busy. Just don't forget to take breaks. If you're anything like me or how gramps was..you train till you can barely stand." She gave her uncle a concerned look. "I just worry 'bout you, that's all."

Kabu chuckled lightly, a confident glint in his eyes. She must have noticed the glisten on his skin and the flush from his jog earlier that day.

"Though I push my body to its limits on occasion, I do have to rest well. That was a lesson learned around your age, in fact!"

He wiped his brow with the small towel around his neck, a sentimental smile on his face.

"I'm surprised, but happy you decided to call. If you're so worried about me, though, I assume you've been taking good care of yourself?"

"Do..you think you'll ever visit Hoenn again?"

The older man cracked a gentle, apologetic expression at his niece's image on the Rotomphone's screen. Though he tried to keep in touch, it had been the Champion Circuit season in Galar, meaning that leisure time was few and far between.

Her words struck him, however, at how long it'd been since he'd actually traveled home

"Mm... It has been a long time, hasn't it? I am sorry for not visiting more often, little Flan."

Though she initially appears ready to argue the point, she soon adjusts her stance, tightening the tie on her shirt and heaving an oddly dejected sort of sigh. Eyes downcast, she mutters a response.

❝I know better than to argue… Is… is it that obvious?❞

It was a frequent habit of theirs to train together, whether it be for their own physical exercise, or through battles, or both. A few more sparring points scored in his favor than he’d expected, perhaps?

“I’m afraid so, Gym Leader Saitou... It is quite unlike you to seem so distracted. You are usually so single-minded in battle. But as far as I’m aware, you’ve not suffered any particular injury... Come.”

“You are... in your first few years in university, correct? Are you perhaps worried about your studies?”
