Grab a selection of paintings/pictures and cluster them on a wall. Seduce people into a bedroom. Dark victorian green + white + parquet = Devine.
Be surprising. Just move away from cream and wooden shaker style kitchens, there is life beyond that regurgitated style.
Location- Clapham, London.
It is no longer the hidden gem of south London. The secret is out, everyone knows- especially the estate agents, Clapham is very desirable. Not too pretentious, Full of bars, restaurants, shops, boutiques and open spaces and in Zone 2. Clapham is the dream location for young professionals. However if your looking for bargains to be had, look elsewhere. But if you want a fantastic area to socialise very close to the city without a convoy of prams *COUGH* Notting Hill, then Clapham is for you. It is considerably cheaper than the western pockets of London with a lively atmosphere to boot.
Clapham is a HIBLE location and you really can't go far wrong.
Tip.
Buy the worst house on the best street. Add value and your taste without paying a premium for someone else's design ideas.
Don't do obscured glass in your bathroom. Its a perfect place to install a statement window. We need something to look at in the tub.. especially if your husband isn't much of a looker.
Mix clean lines with tired materials- creating a thoughtful space. With different paint combinations make a fire surround out of a wall or kitchen splash backs from nowhere.
Tip.
If you are unfortunate enough to have to give up a room to a child, i apologise. However in your cloud of misery don't let the child dictate its "design ideas", These will only be horrific. No guest wants to see disney princess stickers on a wall. Stop it, or restrain from pro-creation.
Location- Clifton, Bristol.
The student wiff that hangs over the majority of central Bristol dissolves over this desirable and affluent corner, clearing way for an elegant grid of town houses and flats. The amenities are full of deli's, alternative cafes and boutiques. Antique shops spill into the independently ran high streets. The location is neighboured with the Clifton suspension bridge, providing iconic vistas. Fantastic travel connection to London, and not a tower block in sight!
The highlight of Bristol. A HIBLE location.
Kitchen/Dining concept. "Burnt comparatives". White walls/ Turner 'Snowstorm' mural/ Moroccan rug/ Parquet flooring/ Minimal kitchen/ Decorative upholstered dining chairs/ dark wood doors and table/ tin lantern.
Tip.
Working with various materials and mediums can create fantastic results. 1 major rule to stick to is keep tonal and possibly one feature colour, Don't put this colour on the walls! keep them white/grey. Everyone will come to regret a fuchsia alcove.
Tonal materials always create a more luxurious feel. parque flooring, tarnished/reflective surfaces and matt wood. A layering of various mediums enables an individual feel. It will always work if you use a white background and similar tones. Just don't throw up some floral B&Q special, what ever you do.
Clever idea. Love marble? but can't afford to tile the entire bathroom in it? Cheap white square tiles can do the majority of the work while the marble takes centre stage. Grey grout creates an expensive aesthetic.
Tip.
Any space can be great, its your fault if it isn't.
Tip.
If you are considering using magnolia paint or in fact have already chosen it for your walls. I don't think HIBLE (The House Bible) can accommodate for your needs. Farewell.
Bathrooms. You can not go wrong with marble. Please, if your not sure. Just do marble- Just don't paint it lilac, ok?
A touch of Symmetry. 2 chairs, 2 lamps, 2 vases. Create a lost space by forming one with objects. No walls? Doesn't matter. This fluidity enables furniture change and provides a delightful space.
