@hidden-ahsoka
Swaying his shoulders forward, Anakin sauntered his feet ahead in brisk movements. His walk was grounded with grace but halted suddenly upon sensing a presence he had not felt in some time. The long black robe dragged at his feet as his body swiftly turned around. Anakin raised his chin up as he saw her, Ahsoka Tano. He was almost overwhelmed with emotion with his padawan only steps away from him. The two had often bumped heads seeing as she was stubborn and failed to listen to him much like himself with Obi-Wan, but nonetheless, he would have done anything for her. She had been a great friend, his only friend minus Obi-Wan and Artoo. But like all those who Anakin cared deeply for, he lost them eventually.
Anakin’s eyebrows stretched into a tight grimace, while standing tall and stoic, making no movements but instead calculated the other’s movements with the dark force. He took two short steps forward, remaining stiff. Anger began to boil at the surface, awaiting for it to erupt. Anakin tightened both lips as he shifted his shoulders from side to side, with annoyance written all over his face. “ Ahsoka Tano, you’re the last person I’d expected to see.” The words escaped Anakin’s lips in a peeved tone.
Let it be known that all of the air was sucked out of the world when Ahsoka laid eyes on Anakin once more. He was unchanged - preserved just as she remembered him - and she first noticed this by the utterly recognizable sound of his voice. She turned - and there he was.
All of a sudden, her lungs felt as if they were made of paper. Delicate and frail, in a way that was so unlike her. Ahsoka felt the very real fear that she’d tear a hole right through them if she inhaled too sharply. So, instead, she kept her breath even and steady as she took in the cut of his gaze that was sharp enough to cut through the air between them.
The only saving grace of this entire conversation was that he called her ‘Ahsoka Tano.’ Not Snips. Not just Ahsoka. Her full name. It meant that despite the demeanor he projected, this was a fight. Like the old days when she would sleep in late for a mission or temporarily lose her lightsaber. He was angry or upset and that itself was validating in its own way. Anakin was more or less a flown blown Jedi, supposedly skilled in controlling his emotions. It was powerful knowing she could cause a shift that.
As for her own emotions? Well, she was no longer a Jedi so there was some room for forgiveness in the way her own emotions raged within her. And indeed they raged. What started off as a spark of irritation quickly morphed into a wildfire as soon as she was close enough to sense his presence. When she saw him, she wanted so desperately to call him ‘Skyguy’ and for them to fall into an old familiar pattern. And then she felt it -
She sensed the Dark Side in him.
Anger struck like lightning and then rolled through her like thunder. What was he doing? Her brow furrowed as she tried to make sense of it. It was him she was sensing… wasn’t it? ….Yes, it most definitely was. While her whole visage snapped into something a little more snarky nothing could stop the way the poison that dripped off Anakin’s tongue spread across Ahsoka like a disease.
“General Skywalker” she said with a mock salute, shoulders thrown back, standing straight just as she’d seen so many of the Republic’s forces do back in the day with much more respect than what she was showing him now. Her smirk was just a little too cock-sure, a little too mean. Just because he wasn’t going to call her Snips didn’t mean she wasn’t going to avoid old snippy habits. Besides, she liked the way the honorific distanced her from him. She needed that right now. “You’re telling me. You’re the last person I’d hoped to see.”
Lies, lies, lies lies - LIES. She was too busy reeling from the dark energy that crackled in the air around him - in him - Anakin, what happened? She wanted to know what exactly had gone wrong and but didn’t dare utter the three words that lingered in the air.
Are you okay?
“But now that we’re here we might as well address the nerf in the room. You’re using the Dark Side now? That’s… coooool. Really proving yourself to be a Master worth sticking around for.”
She was in D.C. because she had sensed him here, but now that the moment was finally here… well… this was not the reunion she’d been hoping for.
