Your home was isolated but it was a peaceful enough place; as peaceful as a viking settlement can get anyway. Where sword fights and archery lessons were as common as simple greetings.

It was after one of these lessons, sitting in the Great Hall, that you learned of the legends. Of a time where dragons and vikings clashed; then became friends. A time where the air was just as familiar as the land situated beneath your feet.

It was a common belief that the dragons would never return. That the time of unity, between air and land, was truly over.

A belief that was proven wrong one night when you stumbled upon a creature with glowing green eyes; the dragons had returned.

But they weren’t the only ones…

Romantic Options—

Aster/Astrid (M/F): One of the strongest fighters within your village; an impressive feat at your age. Their confident smile is ingrained into your mind at this point. The blue of their eyes sparkling, fair skin flushed due to their exertion, and fair hair ruffled by the wind. They barely ever spared you a glance, partly because you could never gain enough courage to approach them, but that might all change now.

Frey/Freya (M/F): A soft spoken bookworm, sort of like yourself, that prefers to keep to written words rather than gleaming metal. Intelligent green eyes glued to the weathered books as the clanging of swords ripple throughout the room. They don’t let many things bother them, which is why they’re your best friend.

Erik/Erika (M/F): The traveling trader's child that has decided to stay in your village while their father goes on. A curious mind that wishes to learn all of the intricacies of a place seemingly so foreign to them. The dark brown of their eyes inquisitive in nature as they take everything in.

Kol/Kara (M/F): A new addition to your village; as they used to be a bandit on the island across the way. Lands filled with lawlessness and anarchy. You hadn’t truly believed that they had come from such a place, not with their cheery smiles and disposition, but one look at the sword strapped to their hip tells you otherwise. The deep blue of their eyes deceptive in their openness.

Espen (M/F): The troublemaker within your village; always pulling pranks and finding life a continuous joke. Finding great joy in messing with the fowl and cattle of your village. If there was a faint boom you were always certain who caused it.

What are the ROs reaction to getting random gifts like shiny rocks, sketch’s, etc from the MC? This totally isn’t a heavy self insert bc my love language is giving gifts.

Aster/Astrid: They wouldn’t understand it at first but they’d definitely appreciate it. You’d notice that some of the gifts were proudly displayed in their room, on their person, or somewhere they can easily see it. They’d definitely try to find something the MC likes to gift back. As they’re one to always show thanks in whatever way they can; usually with the same action that they’re saying thank you for.

Frey/Freya: Would be really shy about it but they’d gift the MC a poem in return. As they’re much better with written word than they are spoken. They just hope that they’re thankfulness truly shows within it. They’d also stumble through a heartfelt thanks as they try to navigate through their feelings.

Erik/Erika: Has been around traders for their entire life but they’d never think of giving up the presents you’ve given them. As they’re now more precious than gold or silver. Gems and various other things holding no contest with your gifts. So you’d definitely see them trying to figure out what to give you in return.

Kol/Kara: Their eyes would soften immediately when they found out it was you. Taking great care to put their gifts/trinkets in a safe place for it to not get harmed. You’d definitely notice the slight smile they offer you whenever they see you now. Something that means a lot coming from them.

Espen: They wouldn’t react outwardly at first. To the point where you might think that they don’t really care about the gifts at all. Only to later find out that whenever they’re pranks go off your house, and the areas you frequent, have been left out of the crossfire. As they don’t want to possibly hurt a place that means so much to you.

Is the dragon we discover a night light?

Yes. A little ways down the lineage but it’s a Night Light.

How does Espen ride there dragon? With the wins each got a dragon head. Do they just ride in between the neck?

I honestly just imagine it as a what a School of Dragons player does if they have any dragon with multiple heads (between their necks). Espen’s dragon may change as I discover more about their character but, for now, the Hideous Zippleback fits them the most.

My other IF idea, also titled Hidden World (for the current moment), is actually just a bit after the second movie takes place. In it you’re the rider of the Light Fury and come to Berk to warn them of the coming danger; and end up falling in love with a smattering of other action/adventures. The ROs in that are the main cast— Hiccup, Astrid, Snotlout, etc. (in it we’re pretending like Hiccup and Astrid aren’t together).

While in this you’re the rider of a different, yet equally fast, type of dragon.

Okay if we’re talking about our favorite dragons one of my favorites is the Boneknapper.

The Boneknapper is amazing too; I love Gobber’s entire relationship with it.

Will this be based more on the movies or the books or both??

This story is set a century or two after the event of THW (I’m still working on the timeline). It’s mainly based off of the movies but I hope to add some themes from the books as well. Though it has been a while since I read them.

As of right now the dragon is male but as I continue to work on the prologue/first chapter I’ll let you all know if that changes.

Aster/Astrid is based off of Astrid (minus the fact that they don’t have a Deadly Nadder).

Frey/Freya is based off of Fishlegs (well his personality).

Erik/Erika is based off of Trader Johann (I imagine them to be related to him somehow).

Kol/Kara is based off a mixture of Eret and Snotlout.

Espen is based off of Ruff and Tuff.

May I ask, but will the MC get nontraditional dragons like Changewing, Thunderdrum, Whispering Death or Scauldron?

You actually have a set dragon (that you get to name, of course) which you got a hint of in the pinned post. I would say it’s not a traditional dragon. Sort of.

You’ll see those dragons though. As the dragons start fully returning.
