Stop telling yourself that the grass is greener on the other side, because itâs not. It is greener where you water it. So take control of your life and start watering your own pastures and grow your own greener grasses.
americans think ABSOLUTELY NOTHIN of driving 7 hours. theyâll drive 7 hours just for dinner. theyâll drive 7 hours just for chips and dip
some things that horror movie culture has taught you are scaryâŠ. are just ableist
âŠ.clarify?
okay sure. psychosis? scarier to have than to know someone who has it. DID? im more a threat to myself than people around me. wheelchairs and psych meds? are tools that help people live more functional and flexible lives and are not judgments of the persons character and for sure are not scary things. and for real, intellectually disabled people are not threats, but movies love to make them villains because they act different and understand the world differently. and people with notable physical differences? people whoâs bodies look different? people with scars, growths, amputations, etc? are literally just people. and seeing themselves painted like monsters on the big screen is absolutely sickening and damaging to how society will see them.
its not only bad writing but its extremely harmful to people who actually live with conditions that are misrepresented in media. when i found out i had DID, my mom freaked out because her only point of reference was Sybil. when i was younger and first went on psych meds, i thought it meant i was set on a track to be a bad person, because in so many movies and video games you find out the bad guy has medication in his bed side table for some sort of psych disorder. the worst thing a hallucination has ever made me do was wake my mom up at 3 AM to check my bathroom to see if the bugs i saw everywhere were real and the worst thing an âepisodeâ of any sort has made me do is hurt myself. my ptsd doesnt make me kill people, my alters dont kidnap people, my autism doesnt make me so morally unaware that ill murder for senselessly, my ocd doesnt make me hurt people etc etc etc
literally the only âhorrorâ is the ableism. and the only way you can write good horror about disability and mental illness is if the focus is on how society and the medical field treat us rather than focusing on how we are apparently so scary, threatening, and bad.
The laws of the jungle are often brutal, but so it seems are those of copyright. For years a wildlife photographer has been dragged through the courts in A
THIS is what i mean when I say animal rights groups are absolute garbage that waste time, resources and money, all whilst doing nothing for animalâs welfare.Â
peta have ruined a personâs life and career over a fucking photo. This is what peta does with itâs donated money and resources. This is what youâre supporting when you support animal rights groups.
Itâs even worse because the photographer was working towards macaque conservation and welfare.
Donât lump all animal rights groups into being the same as PETA
Actually I will because all animal rights groups are the same. Animal rights fundamental belief is based on applying human behaviours / rights and the anthropomorphism that comes from that, onto animals. They believe at their core that animals should have the same rights as humans and theyâll gladly compare marginalised people and their oppression to animals which in itself is disgusting.Â
Animal rights has done nothing to actually help animals or improve the welfare and care of them. Animal rights activists are people throwing red paint at literal strangers, or doing graphic gross public âdemonstrationsâ in order to shock, they sit on a pile of their own bs and think theyâre ethically or morally superior to everyone else despite doing nothing to actually help animals.Â
They include for profit groups such as PETA which do more harm then good, or terrorist organisations like the animal liberation front.
Animal welfare activism is what you all should be supporting. Animal welfare organisations are non-for-profit and built up of actual animal professionals; vets, scientists, conversationalists, farmers, so on. Animal welfare activist are the reason we have animal welfare boards that oversee animal scientific research, why scientists have to animal ethics when working with vertebrates, why there are certain welfare regulations for slaughtering animals for agriculture, why there are government laws and guidelines for animal care and welfare. They include groups such as the RSPCA/ ASPCA, The humane society (international), Animal Welfare League.Â
If you support animal rights you frankly are ignorant when it comes to animals and to actual welfare practices or how to go about actually changing welfare issues. If you want to read more about the differences between animal rights and animal welfare I have more posts on it here based on my experience as a zoologist and from my education during my undergrad zoo degree in which I had specific units (animal health and welfare unit) that went over animal welfare and rights. Â
So yes all animal rights groups are horrible and you shouldnât be supporting them but animal welfare. Which are two very different groups and organisations.Â
Animal activism is one of those realms where a purely feelings-based approach just wonât do. Itâs natural to be angered and saddened by what happens to animals, but if you want to change anything, you need experts and sound strategy. Thatâs what animal rights groups tend to miss: theyâre very good at being visibly outraged and thatâs about it.
Take the group I saw downtown a few weeks ago. They were standing there in Guy Fawkes masks with television screens strapped to them showing horrific scenes of animal mutilation. They had âMeat Is Murderâ signs. I donât doubt these people had good intentions, but their approach was completely ineffective.
They werenât giving out information. Standing there silently with masks on, they werenât making themselves open to questions. And crucially, what they were doing was driving people away, not bringing them in. Broadcasting extremely disturbing material like that on a busy street where any number of little kids, people with PTSD, or anyone else sensitive to that could see itâŠthatâs just supremely stupid. All they did was make people avoid them. They didnât really spread awareness.
So when people say you should support animal welfare, not animal rights, theyâre not telling you to care less about animals, theyâre telling you to use that care to support organisations with expert backing who do things that actually have a positive impact on their wellbeing.
bisexual culture is being very specific with the men youâre interested but having absolutely no type when it comes to girls because theyâre all so beautiful
so you dated the wrong person and learned a hard lesson. you chose the wrong major and had to start over again. you cherished a friend who backstabbed you. it sucks, but itâs also going to work out. thatâs life; you learn, hurt, love, cry, laugh, and keep going. you experience setbacks and you grow and itâs all okay.
I wanna say to all inspiring su theorists out there that iâm pretty sure the crew is stealing theories off tumblr. please be careful. your intellectual property is important. stay safe out there
