Aaaaaa, I’m so happy to finally be drawing my girl again! This fan art kicks off a series of drawings of Shuri in her swordswoman multiverse, and I’m going to try to do at least one a month until I’m satisfied. But don’t worry—besides that, I have MANY other drawings of her and Brook in mind.... I mean, a LOT of them, hehehe.

Could Shuri already know about Laboon?

This is a theory of mine from a few months ago, but it keeps lingering in my mind. This ended up being longer than I expected, so I'd like to already thank anyone who makes it to the end.😅🫶

Based on the title alone, it doesn’t make sense, but given recent events, I feel like it seems more and more plausible. First of all, it started with the Abyss Contract. The Domi Reverse and the Abyss Pact seem to have noticeably different levels of control. Domi Reverse is something forcibly imposed on the dominated person, which is why “all” it takes is to kill them to break the curse (or Chopper's touch).

But since that’s already a very drastic breach of contract condition, I started wondering: what could be even more drastic? What sets Domi Reverse apart from the Abyss Pact? And I think a simple and plausible possibility is consent. Everyone who has some level of pact with Imu either wanted it or simply accepted it. Immortality, superhuman strength, telepathy, teleportation—among many other perks the company offers—as long as you agree to be under the absolute command of the king of the world. And well, we know from our poor Harald that a person doesn’t need to know they’re handing their life over to Imu to accept it—they don’t need to read the fine print of the contract; they just have to sign it.

But then that raises a new problem: why on earth would Shuri accept a contract with the person who is, quite simply, primarily responsible for the destruction of her homeland and her father’s death? The person who literally made her kill him?

Well, the answer is simple and sad.

She would accept it for Brook’s sake.

As the last living person she loves, the last person left in her family (and yes, I’m one of those fans who believes she aimed that sword that way on purpose so Brook would have a chance to get out of that room alive), she’d do anything to see him safe and sound. But sorry, guys, I just can’t buy that Brook escaped unscathed from that absurd situation for so long, lol.

Our skeleton swordsman, in about 10 minutes, saw: - A transformed Gorousei - A God Knight (who basically admitted that he abused that country’s queen years ago and has now returned to destroy the place and retrieve the child who’s now useful to him) - Oh, and the secret king of the world =D

Yeah, Brook probably didn’t see Imu, and even if he had, he wouldn’t have understood what he was looking at—just like he didn’t understand what the heck Marcus Mars was—but still, he was in the same room as the ruler of the world, and given everything he’s been through, he had more than enough reasons to seek revenge someday. And then he becomes a pirate, lol.

HOW, in the name of Nika, did the World Government let the Rumbar Pirates enter the Grand Line?? Brook’s ship should’ve been hit with a Buster Call before his first wanted poster even appeared in the morning paper! That’s how the World Government deals with enemies who hold its secrets—by wiping them out.

But Brook survived. For another ten years (if I’m not mistaken) before dying on the Grand Line, and of those, only three were spent there; the rest of the time, either he hadn’t met the Rumbar Pirates yet, or for seven years they sailed only in the West Blue. And at some point, Laboon started following them, because she came from the West Blue—York and the others were shocked when they realized she had passed through Red Mountain.

Another important point here is that the flashback was cut short before we saw Brook become a pirate for the first time, and as much as I know this is also due to pacing and narrative (that part of the story was the hook we needed to get back to the fight), I can’t help but think that Brook’s pirate past will be revealed in Shuri’s flashback when she can finally explain what happened to her and how she was transformed into someone else. Because she couldn’t have lived in the Domi Reverse in Maregoise—it doesn’t make sense for a demon to be roaming among the self-proclaimed gods. So she must have returned to normal, but she would NEVER accept being a Tenryubito; she would NEVER willingly live under the same roof as the man who abused her mother and contributed to the death of her real father. Her words at Domi Reverse aren’t what she truly thinks; they’re the result of the absurd mental confusion of discovering, in just a few minutes, that 1) she wasn’t her father’s biological daughter, and 2) this war was only happening because he refused to hand her over, not the people. And that must have been very painful for her at that moment, because it hurt both her pride as a daughter, as a future ruler and as a swordswoman. We saw that Shuri wanted to fight for her people, and then we saw that, in a way, she blames Reuven for the kingdom’s downfall, calling him an irresponsible king.

There might be some truth to that, just as the warrior pride of Dory, Broggy, and the other giants was partly true—they enjoyed feeling invincible, but that’s not who they really are. So she may have felt that her father didn’t trust her strength to resolve the situation that was ""her fault"".... Besides, only Oda knows what atrocities he might have said to her while they were fighting. Because, since Reuven was also in Reverse Domi, he wasn’t in his right mind either, so just imagine what horrible things were the last words the two of them exchanged… Looking back, Shuri must have realized that this wasn’t true—just as her own words weren’t—but it must have hurt terribly to lose someone she loved so much under those circumstances. That’s why she would never ally herself with the World Government of her own free will. I know she’d rebel and fight with everything she had. But if one day they showed up with Brook’s wanted poster—featuring photos of him with his new friends (taken by someone from CP-0, most likely), maybe even photos of the little whale that started following them—and told her that either she accepts Imu’s mark or her friend, his companions and that little whale would explode in less than 24 hours… Then she’d accept it. She’d accept anything. Because when you come out of the Domi Reverse, you retain your memories of what you did. And Shuri’s last memories of Brook are of him in tears because he lost his best friend and couldn’t bring himself to raise a sword against the child he helped raise.

Jesus, I’d blame myself for the rest of my life for causing so much pain to someone I love so much! And Shuri must blame herself, too. So she’d do anything for him.

Even hand her own soul over to the devil.

(And yes, we’ll have a drawing of Shuri Sayaka right after Shuri Utena because I’ve decided to create my own multiverse of sword-wielding Shuris—I just need to stop hating everything I do, but we’ll get there soon! =D )

I said I was going to talk about my little girl Shuri yesterday, but while I was writing the post, the power went out, lol. So let's try again today.

A little vent, some explanations and One Piece

Hi, everyone, it’s been a while, huh.

I’ve been busy with some personal projects and work, and I haven’t had time to draw One Piece fan art these past few months, even though I have lots and lots of ideas (all about Shuri and Brook, haha). But now that I finally have some time and have started putting those ideas down on paper (on the screen, actually), I’m feeling exhausted, lol. Well, maybe it’s just today, but I’m really feeling down right now. Down about my style, down about how slow I am, and down about not having enough time to draw for myself. I have a thousand ideas for drawings, but they’re just rotting away in my head because I’m not fast enough to give them all my attention at the same time. So I thought I’d come here just to comment on a few things about my girl Shuri and see if sharing my thoughts about her with other fans cheers me up a little. I promise we’ll have fan art of her here soon—I just won’t promise a specific date.

Every single character that has had more focus or introduced in Elbaf (Rocks, Loki, Imu, Brook, and Gaban) have all had SOME tie to Shuri and we need to talk more about how she’s one of the most important and key people in Elbaf if not the most key. She’s basically a narrative parallel to Loki, is sought out by Imu, Gaban is the catalyst for her regaining her memories, was there on god valley AND during rock’s meeting with Imu like why aren’t we talking about her more what’s wrong with this fandom?!

If Shuri were a man everybody, agenda and others alike would be all over her, but because she’s a woman and they find her design ridiculous she gets ridiculed not in MINE or Oda’s world!!!!

Actually, this is a redraw because I had already done a version of it at the beginning of the arc in the manga, but when I decided to post this version on Instagram, I realized I didn't like it as much anymore—I felt I could do better... and really, now it's WAY better!🌈✨
