Happy 30th Birthday The Vision of Escaflowne! (aka. it's escaflowneweek, y'aaall)

Everything began when I secretly watched MTV on Wednesday nights on the TV in my parents bedroom. Later recorded some episodes on VHS. To say that those VHS tapes barely stood still would be an understatement.

Escaflowne was and still is my favorite anime of all time. It has its flaws (like everything has) but it is just so beautiful. So heartwarming and dramatic. And so so full of love for classic animation. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE SOUNDTRACK!

It was just a matter of time when my first Cosplay from Escaflowne would come to life. Hitomi was a not planned but I'm happy I realized her outfit. And Millerna was just a coincidence...but one I am incredibly happy about <3 (I'm still hoping someone will cosplay Dryden for me q7q)

Thirty years ago, in 1996, you could have caught this on TV Tokyo, young Maaya Sakamoto introducing "a new show" called Tenkuu no Escaflowne, where she voices the heroine.

Four years later, in 2000, you could have caught this in a Japanese cinema; the full theatrical trailer for Escaflowne (the movie), a dark fantasy retelling of the story.

We will be celebrating the 30th/25th anniversaries for these two throughout this year, inspired by Japan, where it's being celebrated with a new BD release (here's the trailer for that), renewed movie screenings and a bit of new merch.

And we will be using this little logo for the related posts. Just to tie them together visually a bit:

A plea for truth. And Viktor's face suddenly dropped all its masks. The dean's gaze wandered to the hands in his lap.

“Humans are strange mechanisms, Jayce. So many ideas and decisions and dreams and desires grow within them that you can only guess at when you look at their outward appearance. At the same time, this mechanism is so fragile and breakable…”

Dangerous Wishes

I visited German Film & Comic Con last Sunday and decided to wear Hitomi again. There was a specific reason though...besides that I really like wearing her. The german voice actor of Van was a guest at the event and so I went to get his autograph as Hitomi ♡

It was so nice to talk to him and he was really happy to see someone dressed as a character from a series that aired on german TV more than 20 years ago (2001/2002).

Jayce's eyes widened. He felt his heart beating faster and almost feared another migraine attack.

“Oh? And why is that?” he asked.

“He smiles more often.”

"Everything okay? You look beat," he said calmly as his gaze slid back and forth between the table and his partner. “And you smell of sweat and burnt hair,” Viktor countered without making a face and drew a line under a number combination.

Jayce ran his hand along his chin and only now realized that his beard was a little scorched. Perhaps he really would have to part with his new companion if he was going to continue working at the forge. “Touché”

Zeitgeist Chapter 6 update

“V-viktor? What is all this?” the latter finally regained his speech and caught up with his partner, who was walking a few steps ahead of him.

“Zaun”, was the curt reply, but Viktor himself seemed to realize that something was missing ”We'll talk in a moment, when there's some quiet around us. Be patient.”

The fact that Viktor would even utter the word 'patience' baffled Jayce almost as much as this new Zaun around them. But he was a little relieved that Viktor could finally afford this luxury of being patient.
