he has a moment to breathe, to relax and pretend for just a few moments that he isn't who he is. he's never been fond of the position he holds, believes that he stole it out from people who deserved it more. it shouldn't be him standing here, he should be dead. so moments like these were perfect for him, perfect for pretending that he wasn't the current water pillar. to have it disturbed upsets him, though he doesn't let that show.

stony gaze turns to stare at the other, face blank despite the rush of thoughts running through his mind. he'd never taken on a tsuguko, never planned to either. and thankfully no one had asked him to teach them.

but there was a first time for everything, he supposes.

he stares for another moment before deciding to speak. ' no. '

no. no?! a huff of indignation, frustration already burning in her chest from the annoyance of not perfecting the technique as quickly as she had wind breathing. it's smoother, isn't it? more... fluid. of course it is. that's a stupid observation, hitomi. she puffs her cheeks out, lips pursed as she stares at the water hashira in stormy defiance.

" why not? " a demand. she stomps forward, chest puffed out after a painfully long breath. her fists are curled and her face is flushed and one might be fooled into thinking she's about to swing at the man, but instead all of her breath leaves her in an instant and her shoulders slump down.

of course he doesn't want to train her. who'd want to train someone so obnoxious?

" look, tomioka-sama, i'll be a good pupil. and i have an eidetic memory. all you need to do is perform some moves. you don't even need to speak to me. if i could just watch you practice i- " this isn't going to work, is it? " wind breathing is too hard on my body. i need to- i don't know- amend it somehow... if i could just change it a little bit... "
