All of tumblr has a problem of refusing to accept any criticism of stories they're a fan of because people seem to think that acknowledging flaws means the whole work is irredeemable and so are you for liking it, but it's especially annoying with Star Trek tumblr. Yes, I know about Gene's Vision, yes I know the intent is to be progressive, no I don't think it always succeeds in doing so.

First of all, I'm willing to pick Star Trek apart because I want to see how it can be better because I love it. But more importantly, part of being progressive is acknowledging how systems of power are reflected in the world around us, even when it makes us uncomfortable and question things we thought were natural and neutral, and with things we like. Seeing a post about racism in Star Trek and immediately reacting with "No! Star Trek is GoodTM and ProgressiveTM and nothing has ever been wrong with it!" is Just As Stupid as conservatives who talk about how Star Trek didn't used to be political because they never thought about it deeply before. If you aren't willing to acknowlede Star Trek's flaws, then you yourself are refusing its Progressive Message because you don't want to ever think about anything that makes you slightly uncomfortable with your place in the world, and that's so much more damning for your character than liking something that's flawed is
