Augie, Australian Shepherd (8 m/o), Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY • “He likes to eat yarn. We think he’s sewing a blanket inside his stomach. There’s no other reason he should eat that much yarn. Someday a blanket will come out of him.”
Three years ago I wrote the draft below, when I was at my lowest low.
Since then, I’ve graduated college and worked at some of Atlanta’s top publications. I secured a big girl job at a university, where I am also continuing my education. I’ve found my research field of passion and now work with the top researcher in the field. I found love and remembered what it felt like to feel my soul. My tiny humans have grown kinder and wiser, and I too, have grown. We live in a little cozy house with our dog and travel when we can.
Choose to rebuild.
______________________________________________________________
The past two years have been filled with more change than I knew possible.
I'v heard several times that "change is inevitable" but never personally noticed much difference in my world. Most changes come in small doses, often going unnoticed. But, sometimes the changes build up. Like a grand explosion, everything combusts all at once and destroys everything within surrounding range.
It's up to us to rebuild or stay in pieces.
After almost two years of floating along, I choose to rebuild.
