Going to Taco Bell with law student Higuruma
Higuruma- a college student whose main focus is his academics.
You’ve been best friends since childhood, and you’ve noticed some tension when alone with Higuruma. You’re both too scared to make it into a reality. You seriously like him, and you have for years. He is in love with you. He is just horrible at showing it.
“Im sooo hungryyyy!” You groan in your bed. It’s 12:03 am, and yet you’re scrolling through TikTok you come across a video on your fyp of a woman scarfing down Taco Bell. Saliva pours down your lips in hunger. You run to your texts with Higuruma.
You scramble to type out, “need Taco Bell, take me?” Right after you send it, you imagine he’s studying and won’t read it till morning. You glance back to your phone screen and see the words “read” under the text you sent. He’s up? You think to yourself. You swipe back to TikTok and keep scrolling. *ding*, a text rolls in, from Higuruma. “Can’t, studying. And you should be too.” “Ugghhh” you moan. He’s always studying. You’re honesty his only friend thinking about it now. Since he’s always studying he never gets out. After thinking about that, you reply back. “your no fun
:( please rumi!” You teased him a bit knowing he hates that name. A immediate message pops on your screen. “*You’re, why you should study more you don’t even know basic english. Haha.” “Did you seriously just laugh over a text.” You say cringing.
“You should work on your instagrammer loser. So bring US to Taco Bell. WE are hungry.” You text back. You can sense Higurumas annoyed sigh over the phone. “Fine, I’ll get you. You’re paying.” “YESSSS” you get up and do a cheer. Mid cheer, you realized you’re only in a thong, and his shirt. He left it there the last time he came over so..finders keepers!
You throw on a hoodie and some booty shorts, hoping to get him to take a little peak. You know he won’t budge but you just had some hope in your heart today, for some reason. You are mid spray in your perfume when you feel a vibration from your hip. It was a message, from Higuruma. “Hurry up. It’s late.”
You let out a scoff, he can be so pushy sometimes. Not like you don’t like it. You rush down the stairs, and open the door to see his car waiting for you outside your house. Higuruma in his car is waiting for you nonchalantly scrolling on his phone, as if he wasn’t excited to see you. You open the door and greet him eagerly. “Rummiiiii!!! You excited for Taco Bell?!” You roar. Rumi. Higuruma tells you that he hates that name you gave him. But every time you say it, you always find his ears flushed pink. He takes a short breath before answering you back. “I mean I could be studying for the exam, but I was a bit hungry so I found time.” He says. “So you’re excited to eat?” You snap back. “Yeah, sure.” You get this bitter taste on your tounge, like he didn’t even want to go.
He starts to start the car when you blurt out, “I can go back home. If you didn’t want to go you could’ve just said no.” You say, yet you regret it. What if he does say, yeah go back. How awkward would that be to see him the next day. There’s a short wave of silence lingering. He takes a breath through his nose and pushes out the words. “No we’re going. I’m not just going for the food. I .. like your company.” He says the last part softly while turning up music trying to cover up his embarrassment. But you heard it. Higuruma likes spending time with you. You were going crazy. On the inside of course. Yet you’re outside, your face went full flushed and you couldn’t stop yourself from smiling.
There’s an awkward silence between you two in the car. Some music is playing in the background while you two drive in each other’s awkwardness. You don’t want to get to Taco Bell and be all weird, so you start a conversation, to try to change the mood. “Sooo, what you thinking on ordering?” You spit out.
“I don’t know, I don’t really go to Taco Bell.” He answers. Okay cut dry answer, you think to yourself. The car ride continues to be this quiet and awkward atmosphere. About 8 minutes before getting to Taco Bell, he asks. “What are you planning on ordering?” “Little late.” You reply. He laughs. Not a little fake laugh to make you feel better. But a real laugh. It reels you back in. You continue the conversation until you hit the Taco Bell parking lot.
You grab the handle bar, then hear a subtle, “Wait.” You release your hand from the door and watch Higuruma walk across the car to…open your door? As he opens it, it opens in slow motion. You slowly start to see the embarrassment on Higurumas face. You just sit with your mouth open for a bit not knowing how to act or what to say. “Gentleman.” You say sarcastically.
