I miss being more into KISS, it’s a good fandom because it tries to be smart about a dumb source with a lot of nonfiction depth vs dumb about a smart source. It was so productive to be into

I read somewhere that he really wanted to make less explicit, more 20s-40s style horror movies and had some studio plans in the works that never went anywhere. I wish I had the article about it, because it’s the kind of thing I wish he’d focus on more vs slapping his face on products. Ever since I saw the original 40s Cat People, I’ve had this Gene-adjacent character meant to fill that desire for myself…which sadly also hasn’t gone much of anywhere (for various reasons that may resolve soon)

#thanks for the ask!#the main roadblock with the character was feeling out of my lane with some of his themes #because he does relate to some Very dark Jewish history that I felt like the wrong person to cover #but I’ve also seen a lot of people who explicitly wish media would acknowledge these things even if imperfectly #i also live somewhere with a lot of good irl references for him who might be able to help

fun fact: Gene is a spiritually powerful and easy to contact supernatural entity. He is scary and dangerous and counterintuitive but VERY lawful, best compared to high voltage electricity, industrial gases, or other BIG physical forces that can kill you instantly. He gives clear and obvious warning signs if you are doing something wrong.

Gene has a lot of social bandwidth and thick skin and likes being treated like a god #if you “get” him personality-wise he is very easy to talk to but that is noooot most people #i am a very powerful ghost magnet but don’t take requests because a LOT of celebrity ghosts want privacy #because i don’t wave it around irl i am appealing to them because i make a good sightseeing bus (i move around a lot and go fun places)#Ghosts are anonymous to me unless they want to reveal themselves

Reading Maus and relating too much to the counterintuitive economic he complains about makes me really go hmmm about why I relate to Gene so much and find him easy to write

despite having a wildly different background on paper. Though both of my parents were poor at some point and do a lot of the things he does. They’re just better with money stuff than me because I’ve never had to seriously worry. I just feel bad for wasting visible things (wasted potential like missing out on investments is nothing though)

Hey hey! I finally have an Ask! 😆 So Gene mentioned in his autobiography that there were plans for Madonna to sing “I was made for loving you” but it never happened. In your opinion why didn’t it go through? Do you think The Demon and the Queen of Pop had clashing personalities? Maybe they are too similar?

That’s interesting, never heard of that! I need to do some more research on her later, from what I know about her I can definitely see them conflicting

Going to NYC for KISS’s last shows filled me with such a sadness and longing for a place I never knew I wanted to live in so badly, but probably never can. My job stops me, NYC is one of the worst markets for engineers.

I had an aborted fic about someone turning into a gargoyle and trying to fly off a building with wings of stone after taking the last train there from Easton, PA. Don’t know when or if I’ll ever finish it.

Happy to say that I turned to Philadelphia as a compromise and love it even more. I think I was REALLY meant to stay here. It’s not too far from NYC by train anyways.

I’ve had this story about the Man with Smouldering Eyes for years that I put aside because it was too much of a downer because it was SO heavily about housefires and Holocaust philosophy…. But I think it’s time for it to come out this year or so.

I’ve been really afraid about how Jewish people would react to it because I’m an outsider writing about a sensitive topic. I genuinely enjoy the most authentic and academic sources on the topic and would love to collab to someone who can give input on those things. I genuinely love Jewish-American and pre-WWII European Jewish culture and want to get it as correct as I can.

The story involves a fantasy version of Great Adventure and a supernatural werecat arsonist. It’s like a VERY slow motion slasher with a old-school non-graphic horror movie tone. No pointless blood and guts, just horrific implications and feelings related to VERY real problems like employee safety and fire history and why safety regulations exist.

Feel free to share your hyper-specific interests or story concept, I may be happy to fulfill your needs in return. I’m a manufacturing engineer and can help with semiconductor manufacturing, historic trains and amusement rides, and general industrial history topics. I know how to look for some VERY obscure info and have some wonderful technical connections.

Would you recommend Black Diamond by Dale Sherman as an essential KISS book?

I’ve actually never heard of it until now, may take a look into it later and let you know my thoughts then.
