"Legate Damar, sir," came a faint voice from outside the door. "I'm reporting for my assignment to you. Sir."
Damar chewed on the inside of his cheek, tasting blood. He couldn't recall any assignment. "You're relieved of it, then," he muttered, then switched the intercom off and fell back in his chair.
For a few seconds it seemed like the little vole outside his door had given up, but soon after - and Damar's upper lip twitched into a sneer at that - the knocking started back up.
Infuriated, he ripped the blanket off his back and threw it behind him as he stomped to the door and hit the panel next to it. It slid open smoothly, revealing a young man in a gil's uniform.
"Legate—" Rorjek's satisfied smile at finally being granted access was quickly followed by a mildly confused frown.
Damar couldn't blame him. He felt equally confused. And even more, quite frankly, disturbed.
