problems I have with marauders fanfictions
Obviously, I should start with: I know not all marauders fanfictions are like this. In fact, there are a lot of very good ones that aren’t like this. There are even some that are really good that have these tropes. These are just personal opinions, and if it offends you, then I’m sorry.
Lily Evans and Remus Lupin staying inside the library all day and being prefects: They didn’t. Lily Evans was selfless and kind and incredibly smart, and she also was rather popular. She made jokes, and she was witty and well-liked and well-read. She studied and aced her studies, but that doesn’t mean that she spent all her time at the library. She had lots of friends, and believe it or not, she could party her fair share. She was a troublemaker herself, and she played pranks but never got caught. Just because she was prefect, didn’t mean she had a fucking rulebook that she whipped out all the time. She was popular and smart, and so she was a prefect. The same goes for Remus Lupin, like, he was a marauder. You know that he was smart, but it was the same lazy genius that they all had. I like to think that if he did read a bit, it would’ve been about a cure or an idea of the beginnings of the wolfsbane potion. And he also wasn’t the voice of reason for the marauders. He got into trouble just as much as they did, and you bet your ass that he exploited his prefectship.
James Potter asking Lily Evans every other hour: James Potter was suave (well, he tried to be. Let’s face it, he was the biggest dork ever). He was cool, funny, popular, handsome, and the shit. And yeah, he had a major superiority complex and all sorts of flaws, but he was not desperate. He was respectful, and if Lily rejected him, then he wouldn’t constantly bug her. He’s a genius; he knows better than to bug someone into submission. James might have liked Lily, but that doesn’t mean that he asked her out every second of every day. I like to think that they became friends slowly, then best friends, who talked to each other for hours on patrols, and then they just happened.
When Marlene is Sirius’ female counterpart: If you’re going to do Blackinnon, then I think it’s a little wierd to have Marlene the exact same as Sirius. If you know anything about Sirius, then you know that he’s very screwed up and has major problems. He doesn’t like himself very much, so he shouldn’t be expected to like someone extremely similar to himself. If Sirius Black falls in love with anyone (whoever you pair him with), then that person should make him happy and laugh and be bright and funny. That person should teach him that loving your family is okay, even when the family in question is a little screwed up. He needs someone to be a moral compass, to be idealistic, to be kind. That person should not be the same as Sirius, but is the person that he needs.
When Sirius Black is portrayed as an eleven-year old girl: You know those fanfictions where Sirius Black just goes, “But, Prongsie,” and refers to himself as “Paddy”? Yeah, those ones. Sirius Black was not the drama queen some people write him out to be. He was fucked up. Anyone would be after that family situation. He was probably depressed, and he might have hated himself a little. I mean, of course, he was always happy around the marauders. His friends were his support system. But, Sirius Black is one of the most complex characters I’ve ever stumbled across, and he shouldn’t be portrayed as shallow. He is two sides of a coin; he is so much more than “Paddy.”
PETER PETTIGREW: Sometimes, Peter shows up in fanfictions and it’s all “he sat there and ate and made suspicious remarks under his breath.” NO. NO. Peter was a marauder, that’s what made the betrayal so much more worse. Do you really think James would’ve trusted his life, the love of his life’s life, and his child’s life to someone who hung on and seemed suspicious? He was best friends with all three of them, and I’m pretty sure he’s what made them work together as a cohesive group. He was the middle-man, and maybe they didn’t appreciate that enough, but he made the group work. Also, Peter Pettigrew was a fucking genius. He was an animagus as a teenager, he was in animagus form for thirteen years, recruited to join the Order, and was scouted out by Voldemort. So don’t write him off as stupid. He was a full character, and he was funny! He was well-liked and witty and a character and a human being. So write him as one.
These are just a few. Sorry (not so sorry) to anyone who’s offended by my personal opinions. They’re just my opinions.

PERSEPHONE: You think they’ll make it? HADES: I don’t know. PERSEPHONE: Hades, you let them go. HADES: I let them try. PERSEPHONE: And how about you and I? Are we gonna try again? HADES: It’s almost spring. We’ll try again next fall. PERSEPHONE: Wait for me? HADES: I will.

More Jily because the thing about shipping them… is that, even if we suffer on October, we won’t stop imagining and creating things about them until we suffer on next October again. It’s an infinit circle.
