Idle Certainty
It was only one date. A good one, I’ll say. I’ve had better.
There was an air of excitement and confusion.
Yet a week passed. Then two. The promise of happiness dissolved. Inconsistency became the rule, and hope grew elusive. Texting isn’t that time-consuming, bro.
The constant second-guessing, the need for validation, and a silent counterpart—clearly not aching for a rendezvous.
I am holding on to the idea that the promise of happiness is, in itself, happiness.
Another round of tears. Maybe two. Mourning what never was, with the idle certainty that love is not for me.
