The Taliban have stepped up their attacks in Afghanistan recently. Last week they abducted 70 civilians (including children) from Shah Wali Kot in Kandahar, of which seven were killed (video report). Two districts in northern Afghanistan were also overrun by the militant group last week. On Monday, they attacked the capital, Kabul, killing 36 civilians. On Tuesday, they attacked a military base in Kandahar, killing 26 Afghan soldiers. The recent spate in attacks is alarming and says a lot about the inefficiency of the government and international military forces to eradicate or at least weaken terror networks in Afghanistan.
