Battle of Okinawa US Marines & Army Soldiers in Combat Shuri Line WW2

 Bitter fighting by US Army Soldiers and Marines along the Shuri Line on Okinawa Island in 1945 during World War II. Combat scenes from the Naha, Shuri, and Yonabaru areas in the beginning and at the end with short vignettes of conditions on the island in between.  Included are scenes of the rescue of civilians who had been hiding down a well and in the underground caverns connected to it for 57 days.

USAAF Soldiers Trick Out Willys Jeep w/ Aircraft Parts Morotai Island WW2

 Two U.S. Army Air Corps soldiers of the 9th Service Squadron saved a Jeep from the scrap yard and souped it up with salvaged airplane parts on Morotai Island in 1945 during World War II.  Includes belly tanks from P-38 and P-47 fighters, 50 caliber ammunition tracks and bomber parts, etc.

Operation Varsity Footage Airborne Assault Across the Rhine WW2

 Allied paratroopers parachute across the Rhine river into Germany near Wesel as part of Operation Varsity on 23-24 March, 1945 during World War II. British, Canadian and American soldiers participated in this, the largest airborne operation of the war, as well as more than 1000 aircraft.  Also shown is some of the prior air bombardment including incendiary bombing and gun camera footage of British Typhoons firing rockets at ground targets.

L-4 Planes Aerial Resupply and Jungle Hospital Aid US Soldiers on Leyte

 Field station & hospital are set up in the jungle near Manarawat, Leyte, Philippine Islands to treat wounded soldiers of the 1st & 3rd battalions of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Medical personnel & supplies are parachuted in and a short airstrip is cleared.  The wounded are treated under primitive conditions and evacuated by L-4 liaison planes for further treatment. According to the film, as many as 70 patients a day could be cared for at this jungle aid station.

Luftwaffe FW190 Ju88 Mistel Piggyback Planes Shot Down Aerial Combat Gun Camera Footage

 Eighth Air Force fighter plane gun camera (GSAP) footage over Germany during WW2. Includes footage of shooting down FW-190 Ju 88 composite "Pick-a-Back" planes (aka: Piggyback, Mistel, Huckeback, Beethoven Gerat, or Vati und Sohn).  The Focke-Wulf 190 is mounted on struts on top of the Junkers Ju-88 which is loaded with large explosive warhead.

Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa) Attacked by 5th Fleet Planes Gun Camera Footage

 US Navy carrier based planes from Admiral Raymond A. Spruance's 5th Fleet strike Japanese shipping, planes, airfields and other land targets in the Ryukyu Islands (presumably Okinawa island).  Japanese aircraft return the favor by attacking the U.S. fleet.  Lots of great gun camera footage including a few HE rockets in this one

Typhoon Hits US Navy 3rd Fleet Ships at Sea WW2

 100 feet of the cruiser USS Pittsburgh's bow is gone after the US Navy sails through high seas during a typhoon / hurricane in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Battleships, cruisers, destroyers, aircraft carriers and planes are damaged, but thankfully only one life is lost.

Ships mentioned include:  USS Pittsburgh, USS Indiana, USS Hornet, USS Bennington, USS San Jacinto.

F7F Tigercat Twin Engine Fighter Short Demonstration

The Grumman F7F Tigercat was the first twin-engined fighter aircraft to enter service with the United States Navy. Designed for the new Midway-class aircraft carriers, the aircraft were too large to operate from earlier decks. Although delivered to United States Marine Corps (USMC) combat units before the end of World War II, the Tigercat did not see combat service in that war. Most F7Fs ended up in land-based service, as attack aircraft or night fighters; only the later F7F-4N was certified for carrier service. They saw service in the Korean War and were withdrawn from service in 1954.
