Hi, may I ask what brand of notepad/legal pad do you use? Thank you

Hey! I used a variety - generic ruled notepads when I knew I was going to be working through a lot of paper, and moleskins when I was making notes that I’d refer back to. I also used my ipad/laptop when making notes for essays, as it was easier for me to refer back to them when writing.

Do you have any advice for retaining the history you learn. I’m majoring in history and feel like I only remember small chunks of what I learn in lectures. It makes me feel that I’m not good enough to study history, especially when it come to class discussions.

You should never feel like you’re not good enough for class discussions! If you come with an open mind, ready to learn, you’re off to a great start.

In terms of retaining knowledge, I’m honestly not sure I’ve retained half of what I’ve learned over the years. It’s impossible to remember everything — even if you love the content! I would focus on building your knowledge and memory of core historical issues you’re interested in, by recording notes (in whatever way works best for you) and regularly going back to them to refresh/update. Don’t be afraid to seek new opinions/sources on topics you’ve learned previously. You never know when or how something will “stick” with you. Mixing up the ways you gain knowledge would be a good way to vet what works best for you as well. and don’t beat yourself up if you forget things! History is an ever-evolving discipline, and no one knows it all! 🤍
