There isn’t a shit eating grin, not at first at least, just a particular stare before his hands cup his face and his nails trace across his cheek. It appears then, his devious grin curling wide. “Always missin’ my buddy.” He cant his head. “You remember your friendly neighborhood HABIT, right?”

     Patrick returns the stare, a look of disgust overcoming his features when the other placed his hands on his face. He grimaces, a snarl forming on his features that he just barely holds back.

     Hands lift to rest over top of the other’s, intertwining their fingers as he roughly yanks them off of his person. Features shift to one of being unimpressed, leaning away from HABIT.

“ Hardly noticed you were gone in the first place. No wonder the neighborhood was actually bearable for once. Feel free to fuck off again. ”

     Leaves sway and fall. A breeze through open curtains.

     Frost settles like morning dew, a fog spread over the earth and clinging low to the soil. Aware. Subservient. Knows the place of the master.

The big hand doesn’t move.

     A snapping of twigs, a tree branch bows to the weight. A shift in the distance of foliage and green. Of black and red and deep dead brown. A presence not seen but felt. The breeze quiets down.

     Nature knows its place.
