Out of the Blue
STATEMENT English/Japanese 絶景 means 'magnificent landscape' in Japanese, and 絶筆 does 'last work'. Both have same word 絶, but use it in different meanings. The first is 'outstanding' and the latter is 'cutting'. Generally, 絶景 means magnificent scenery. As for me, it means 'beautiful scenery never to see again' as well, like 絶筆 does 'last work'. When I encounter that landscape, it was surely a magnificent scenery. It is now the place never to be able to be visit and seen again or will be so. To record or memorize a magnificent scenery, I use photograph, film, or performance. My work of visiting the place, reviving senses from the place, and renewing them might be the trial to share them with others. 絶景とは、一般的に、素晴らしい景色のことを指す。絶唱も、優れた詩歌に 使われるが、絶筆の場合は少し異なり、「最後の作品」という意味も併せ持つ。 私がその風景に出会った時、そこはたしかに絶景だった。今はもう二度と行くことも、見ることもできない場所。もうすぐ行くことも、見ることもできなくなる場所なのだ。私にとっての「絶景」を記録し、記憶するために、写真、映像、そしてパフォー マンスを用いている。実際にその場所に向かい、そこに立って得た感覚を、再現し、更新することで、誰かと共有できるかもしれないと試みている。
