There’s something intoxicating about the ocean. It may simply be of the movement, its incredible power, or the overwhelming mass. Or perhaps it is the ability to become completely engulfed by the combination of salt and water in a way that can both cleanse the body and renew the spirit.

The Lift Tower Project

"The goal of this piece is to be more than a static piece of metal. Inspired by Bozeman, an ever changing town with adventure and fun in its heart, The Project seeks to embody this with dynamic interaction not only with its audience but also with its location. It is meant to be used and abused. In much the same way a ski lift gains character through many years of strenuous use, The Project will gain scratches and scars. The obvious imagery of the tree becomes a much bigger part of its environment when snow collects in the branches, icicles form from the holes, and striations of mineral deposits from water running down its trunk create new life in a deceased ski lift. In this vain, The Project should appear most alive in the deep winter when most trees are in hibernation. Only years can produce the ultimate goal for this sculpture. Growth through degradation."             - Rob Rodgers

I've been lucky enough to know Rob as both a friend and a very talented artist for the last several years. His recent relocation across the Pacific Ocean to the islands of Hawaii presented an opportunity for me to photograph his newly erected sculpture at Montana State University.

I spent the winter of 2013 studying and traveling throughout Italy, Sicily, Croatia, and Greece. This series of diptych's is an aesthetic representation of the people and places I was privileged to meet, see, and capture throughout my exploration.

Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

This is one of my all time favorite books! If I was stranded on a desert island and was only allowed one book to live out the rest of my days with, this is the book I would bring with me.

Last week I was able to tag along to a Mordencage demo hosted by Christina Z. Anderson. Mordencage is a printing process that was invented in the 1960's by French Photographer Jean-Pierre Sudre. The remarkable imagery that this process produces has failed to gain excitement on the American side of the Atlantic. I find it incredible how the destructive element of this process is what creates the unique beauty of the final product. I have had to ability to dabble in this process in the past and am continuously blown away by what it produces. I cannot begin to express how good it feels to be playing with chemicals again!

A simple hike up the Narrows turned into an adventure with only a few drops of rain. Flash flood warning ensued.
