Zhang Ji’s “Subliminal Matrix” at Volery Gallery.
Currently on view at Volery Gallery in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is artist Zhang Ji’s marvelous exhibition, “Subliminal Matrix.”
Zhang Ji creates mesmerizing paintings using a custom-made industrial syringe to apply paint. He references motifs from religious architecture from mosques, synagogues and cathedrals in Europe and the Middle East, creating patterns replicated across the canvas. He takes refuge from the pressure of the high-speed life in his art. The paint required to make these artworks is immense, and labour is demanding. Through his work, Zhang Ji invites the viewer to rethink the medium’s possibilities and reinterpret the past.
Founded in 2020 by Rom Levy, Volery Gallery promotes artists whose art is best described as the New Contemporary Wave. Established in Dubai, the gallery features the most prominent international artists. Located in the Dubai International Financial Center, Volery is the highest altitude gallery in the entire world.
