When Joker opens his eyes, Batman looks large and omnipotent in the darkness of Joker’s cell, glaring down on him like a malevolent deity, a cruel God ready to thrust punishment upon all His sinners. Joker’s God. His Bat. His Bat would never try to pick apart his brain like this; he would hurt, punish, draw blood. Break his bones and bruise his skin and knock out his teeth.

Despite the almighty appearance, Joker knows that Batman is here for something Joker cannot give him. A reason. Collaboration. Something that Batman can use to understand. Just like the night before.

Understand. Batsy’s word of the week, it seems. The thing is, Joker doesn’t like an understanding and forgiving God. He doesn’t believe in repentance. Joker prefers his celestial deities as unwaveringly brutal and unforgiving. Harsh and tyrannical. Not… this.

Joker’s still giggling as Bruce stalks over to the windows and pulls the curtains down, all of them, one by one until he blocks out the last of Barcelona’s warm, inviting twinkle that’s so unlike Gotham. Only then, safe in the musky darkness that reeks of old takeaway and pizza boxes and unwashed laundry, with a city that isn’t theirs firmly shut out, does he turn to Joker.

The decision comes to him quickly. He doesn’t hesitate.

“Come on,” he barks at Joker, hauling him up by his cuffed hands.

Joker never stops giggling, soft and manic, tears trickling down his face as Bruce drags him across the carpets and wood paneling to the ensuite. He barely reacts when Bruce uncuffs him, only to re-cuff his hands around the narrow stretch of unconcealed pipe behind the toilet.

“You’re going to stay here,” Bruce tells him, “and you’re going to be quiet.”

We're excited that you're excited!

We won't be increasing the preorder offerings for a number of reasons, one of which is to maintain the sanity of our Shipping Goon who will be organizing and packaging everything.

However, if we have sufficient leftovers, we'll have a leftovers sale in the fall and you may be able to snag the keychain or pin you have your eye on. "May" being the key word, of course...

“What’s the point of a good old kidnapping if you won’t even bother to entertain me?” Joker whines. It’s the first time he seems uncomfortable. “Like whyyyyyy are we here if you won’t even molest me?”

Batman stares back at him stoically. For the first time since Joker has woken up, he shuts up for more than a few seconds. Joker licks his lips.

“Alright, stop me if you’ve heard this one, but a Catwoman, a Clown and a Stupid Idiot in a Bat Costume walk into a bar—”

Fine. Perhaps only the basics. They probably don’t allow him to watch the news in Arkham since that time with the wig.

“One of the mayoral candidates promised that if he got the majority of the votes, he’d publicly execute what he views as the biggest threat to Gotham City’s safety. You.”

Joker blinks, his surprise quickly transitioning to delighted, boastful laughs. Batman can’t suppress a growl.

Joker gives Mike his best innocent smile, knowing that it will probably annoy him more than put him at ease. Joker’s not here to kill anyone. Scouts honor! I promise! He figures Mike has seen his fair share of sordid characters come into his place of business. People who sit down and go on and on about whatever’s on their mind, venting to whoever will pay them any attention. With this bar located in the not so pristine and shiny part of Gotham City, Joker can guess he’s not the first villain to venture inside.

So what if his kill count is higher than the tab he’s running right now?

I’m a paying customer and I demand some respect!

“Go ahead, Mike, hit me again.” He smiles again, nudging his empty glass forward.

Mike pours him another two fingers. Joker grabs the glass and swigs it fast, and the hot burn of the liquid tingles down his throat. He wishes he could burn what he’s feeling right out of his brain. Burn Batman.

How international is the physical zine gonna be?

For international orders, we're planning on using the Simple Export Rate service via PirateShip, which has packages delivered via Asendia. Asendia reports that they deliver to any country that is not under embargo.

As we scurry around putting finishing touches on things, we want to add a note for our batjokes fans in Russia. Russia is one of the countries Asendia does not currently ship to, but a USPS Priority Mail rate is available for physical preorders.

At what time do preorders open?

At some point in the early afternoon, Gotham City time (US east coast), once we zine drones are sure the storefront is set up as it should be for our fellow batjokes fans, as well as for our clown patron giggling in the ventilation system.
