I’m thinking about who I used to be and who I still am and people I’ve met.
And recently…and we had so much in common, but particularly with my ‘used to be’ my more rigid and uncompromising (read: insufferable) like
I only interact under certain niche conditions which turned out to be bullshit mostly, but still have had an impact on who I am and how I connect and see things
I’ve always been half Ghanaian but I’ve also not BEEN it, as in embodied or accepting.
Anyway, I am just always fascinated by meeting other diaspees and how each of our experiences can be soo nuanced even in the same space and over a continuous amount of time. And there’s nostalgia and also some tension…
like how they remained so steadfast in themselves and I,
being me, always allow room to get sloshed around a bit and changed or touched. It’s just funny.
But also this lifestyle is rapidly undoing my baked in patterns
(There’s something about consistency here too which actually I’m jealous of cos I find hard)
It’s the unbaking, in 33 degree heat
