The Image Object Post
I read it, I did. There were a lot of big words and all I can think about are my friends that graduated today. Umm yea Post Internet Art is what exactly? Shit thatâs been done before the internet or art scavenged from the internet and reinterpreted or re-appropriated and presented as Post Internet Art? Internet aware when the art object is more widely dispersed and viewed than the object itself. Hmmmmm thatâs like everything, any art work, any sculpture anything that is on display. Uhh fuck New Media but Post-Internet is somewhere between two poles....OK, got it! Have a great summer all!!
Parker Itoâs Artist Statetment
That was the craziest artist statement I have ever âreadâ. I had a hard time accepting memes, gifs, mash ups and downloads as art, I just couldnât accept it. Then I realized that that is exactly what it is, art. Shit I do for fun, is this exact thing, well, the mash ups anyways. I liked how his statement had no feeling at all, it didnât sit right with me the first time watching it But I realized thatâs what I like about it. It has such a non human tone, cold and unfeeling but thinking about Itoâs mindset when it was written. Iâm sure that it wasnât meant to be cold and unfeeling, but thatâs how the medium can come across sometimes. I really dug it! The new canvas is your keyboard, monitor, hard drive and the internet. Wubba Lubba Dub Dub!!

Memes!!!
The Meme as Art: Painter Sophisticates Cyberculture
Love it, Benjamemes nice. The irony is not lost in that she creates originals as Benjamin went on about reproducing from an original. I looked at her site and there were some Benjamemes I recognized and some I did not. I find it amazing that no one did this prior her.
The Birth of the Meme Candidate
Never has this happened, a meme candidate. It could only happen, now right?! Social media can apparently be boon or not. It worked for Sanders but not the other two ass clowns that ran for president. And ultimately it didnât help Sanders enough. The meme, in general, is pretty entertaining. Combined with the wit and social commentary of the creator, this is a thing now. Â It has become a form of art or expression of art, that many people can relate too. Has it been fully accepted, maybe not, appreciated oh yea!
MEME/RHIZOME SYNTHESIS
If Iâm understanding this correctly he is stating that memes make up a rhizome? Something that is interconnected and has break downs but will continue despite these breaks? I donât know thatâs what I got out of it. âHaeccites, molecules and particles, Dawkins meme, replicating propagating and mutating the rhizomic structure of given assemblage with varying speed and directionâ Along with âHuman interventions in the propagation of culture can be understood within multiplicity of disparate elements including social production, biological structures. Genetic effects and historiesâ The memes are an amalgamation of these things. Assimilation, retention, expression, and transmission were repurposed as the linking qualities of rhizomic appendages. Or are the meme and rhizomes separate things?
Internet Memes As An Art
Absolutely, this is a new art movement just as the article references the Pop Art Movement. This is what it is memes are relevant on several levels, any subject can become a meme. They can be aimed at everything, nothing is taboo, and everything is relatable. âAmbiguity is never the aim of any meme and this distinguishes memes from traditional art whose comprehension require careful study.â Totally agree, you donât need to know shit about theory or the history behind the image or quote used, to be able to relate. A meme may appear to relatively simple but the fact is, that it takes the same level of creativity to a meme as it does anything else.

Remixing Culture and Why The Art Of The Mash-Up Matters
The mash up has been happening for a long time. Going back to 19136, during the surrealist movement in the experimental film âRose Hobartâ by Joseph Cornell and in 1958s âA Movieâ in which Bruce Connor using collage and assemblage and putting it on film using B movie, soft core pornogtraphy and newsreels. I am torn on this subject as a photographer I am all about copyright. On the other hand, I create mash ups appropriating images from the web. So, I guess I have to agree with the article, in that we need to get our shit straight as far as the internet goes. We can cite text, why not images? As long as the original artist gets some credit, even if itâs just original image by fill in the blank. Iâm ok with this I guess as long as thereâs no profit to be made by the mash upee and then if there is a profit some of it should most definitely be kicked back to the artist. I loved the music industry examples he used. But like I said do it, some I even used for the mash up assignment. Shelbyâs Dragons is a perfect example oh and pretty much every image with the exception of one was appropriated from the internet. Soooooooo âŚ..
In Defense of the Poor Image
This article brings up some good points, things I had realized but had never given much thought to. low res images are used as the high res images are not available for free or cost money. Thus, omitting certain groups of classes from obtaining high res images. Low res images are free and abundant on the internet and anyone or anybody has access to them. This would make sense that these were and are the images that a lot of people/artistâs use. The resurrection of images as poor is about availability and poor images are the ones that are obtainable, easily manipulated and redistributed and re-manipulated around the world. I agree that if an image is of no longer a commercial interest nobody gives a shit if you use it or not. Because they arenât getting any money from the image so they donât care. But on the other hand, if itâs a copyrighted image that means they can take your money, then âfuck you, you canât use it, unless you payâ. Imperfect Cinema, the perfect example of this is the cam recording of movies. The original is copied via a camcorder, reducing the quality of it (the poor image) and that gets recycled around until the blu ray version comes out and then that image is copied and redistributed. But at this stage with technology where itâs at, is it really a poor image at this point? I donât know about all this visual bond talk. We arenât as Vertov described, I mean I guess somewhat as in the image joins us but thatâs about it. I agree with Steyerl âin short: itâs about realityâ
With Jennifer Changâs Artist notebook, I completely related to her hoarding images and video from the internet. Using her videos for her personnel commentary on sex and love online is a great outlet for an artist. Showing us the various themes that can come into play in creating this art. And commentating on the influence of pop culture and turns-of-phrases in the English language about our understanding of relationships is profound. Along with the fact that it it appeals to the shame in which one finds embarrassment and vulnerable romantic feelings allows people to think about differences in mediated ideas of romance and the reality of interpersonal relationships. Some serious shit here, she knows her stuff.

GIF Response
Clearly GIFs have become pretty popular do to the simplicity of how one can be made.  We see them everywhere online from high fashion to last weekâs Super bowl. They have become the pillar for internet artists and the read/write web. GIFs have grown so much that we have seen gallery shows, auctions and the actual sale of GIFs to individuals. The first GIFs were âclunkyâ to fast, to slow, missing pixels, and today you can create them out of high resolution video and they appear seamless. And anyone can create them with very little difficulty. The fact that weâve seen GIFs do what âhighâ art has done, does this mean that GIFs have attained the level of âhighâ art. Itâs in galleries, being sold individually and at auctions, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duckâŚ..
Omg, to see this suit in the movies would be incredible!! lol but seriously, it would! I think this GIF was kinda cheating since itâs the other GIF I posted. Buuuuut dude did Photoshop a different suit onto Spidey!!Â
